Though it’s been in business since 1948, La Montillana is not your average Cordoban traditional restaurant. While you’ll find all the regional classics on offer ( salmorejo, flamenquines, stewed meats and fried fish), you can also tuck into stir-fried chicken in a yakisoba sauce or a salmon curry taco. In an imaginative touch, dishes are divided into evocatively-named categories, such as ‘Memory of the Mosque’ and ‘On the Banks of the Guadalquivir’ (the river that runs through Córdoba).

The third place where you can find the best tapas in Cordoba is Taberna La Montillana. So, number 1 for the amount of variety is Taberna La Montilla. This tavern is a temple of the winesfrom Montilla-Moriles, and they have 12 vermuts from Montilla-Moriles on the menu. From all thetastes of Andalusian recipes in organic style, to more bitter and intense from Barquero winery, tosmoother from Casablanca.

Finally, La Montillana Tavern is the ideal place to enjoy the variety of Cordoban cuisine. Located on Calle San Álvaro, this tavern offers a wide range of tapas and traditional dishes in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Flamenquín and salmorejo are some of the favourites among diners.

This little tavern is located in between Plaza de las Tendillas and Plaza Corredera and where I tried Flamenquin and Salmorejo (see the food pix above) along with 2 beers. I was seated near the bar area and had a high table to myself. Check out more at Taberna La Montillana.

2.- Taberna La Montillana: situada en la Plaza de San Miguel, frente a la iglesia del mismo nombre, esta taberna ofrece un extraordinario flamenquín con una guarnición como complemento que no dejará indiferente a nadie. Un lugar idóneo para pasar un buen rato entre amigos.

The hip tapas bar offers all the classic dishes, but with a modern twist, and an impressive wine list. We ate, among other things, eggplant fritters with feta, small meat-filled pancakes with curry sauce and cochifrito, deep-fried iberico pigbelly cubes.

I tried a menu that was already prepared by the chef of the Taberna. It included 6/7 different dishes all accompanied by a specific local wine. Needless to say, the taste of the food made me feel like being in heaven.

A local favorite, Taberna La Montillana excels in creating classic dishes with modern touches. The oxtail croquettes here are legendary, blending tradition and innovation on a single plate.

Since it was opened in 1940, La Montillana has been serving traditional Cordoba food for decades. The fancy bullfighting decoration adds to the dining experience.
