What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Bodegas el Maño is celebrated for its authentic Spanish tapas and lively, local atmosphere, making it a favorite among both locals and visitors seeking a genuine Madrid experience. Diners rave about dishes like the dry-aged steak, tortilla de patatas, and the unique burrata with prawn tails. While the intimate and bustling environment is a highlight, some note that the intense flavors and garlic-heavy dishes might not appeal to everyone, and the popularity means it can get crowded.
"If it’s not the best restaurant in Madrid then I don’t know what is! I have been there 3 times during my stay (it never happens, I go max 2 times to fact check if it was actually that good). It was a pleasure each time, the food is delicious and the price to value is amazing. I got a steak and it tasted like a proper dry aged steak and was melting in my mouth. It offers the smoky flavour and the sides that comes with are very well balanced. The other day I also got tortilla the patatas and it was the best tortilla of my life. The texture is indescribable. Really outstanding restaurant! Congratulations ☺️"

"I really liked this place. Atmosphere was great, super buzzy and a warm interiors, felt very authentic and not at all like a tourist trap. The service was also good. The food was also great, although I would’ve ordered slightly differently next time. We ordered the crispy pork belly, which was exactly as it says it is but in my opinion really could’ve done with a sauce or something. The patatas bravas were good, I loved the presentation but the potatoes could’ve done with being cooked a little longer. The stand out dish for me was the burrata with the prawn tails - I thought this dish was so clever. It was covered in a smoky, burnt garlic oil which balanced out the sweetness of the prawn and buratta - absolutely perfect for dipping some bread into. I thought the tomato salad with gildas diced up was very clever as well. I regret not ordering the aubergine crisps as they looked great! Would definitely return, very good value as well."

"The best culinary experience in Madrid! I came here with my family and we spent a great time. The atmosphere felt authentic, full of locals and surely not a trap for tourists. The food was delicious, especially the lamb and the cheese cake! Strongly suggested"

A tapas bar is usually known for one or two specialties, but here, nearly every dish is worth visiting for. Kickstart your salivary glands with a gilda—a Basque brochette stacked with a anchovies, olives, and pickled hot peppers that will make you pucker—before tearing into retro Madrileño mains like fried pig ear soaked in spicy brava sauce and meatballs served alongside a mound of hand-cut fries. The burst-in-your-mouth chocolate croquetas are the dessert menu's sleeper hit.

Having first opened in 1927 the restaurant itself is stunning, with a beautiful tile floor and marble bar where you can sit and enjoy your drinks and tapas. Nearly 100 years ago, when Maño first opened, it was a neighborhood wine shop that sold wine in bulk. Like most of the great tapas bars in Madrid, it slowly evolved to serve small bites that people could nibble on while they tried the wine they were buying.
