I stumbled into La Recova on a quiet morning, craving something simple. What I got was a full-blown flavour punch I didn’t see coming. This was hands down the best breakfast I’ve had in a while spicy, unapologetically traditional, and worlds away from the usual ‘avocado toast’ trend. It felt like being welcomed into someone’s home, rustic, fiery, and full of soul. No fluff. Just food that speaks i...

Reviews Summary

La Recova is celebrated for its unique ambiance, blending a charming antique shop with a cozy cafe and tapas bar. Diners rave about the inventive breakfast toast served with homemade spreads and the authentic, affordable tapas. While some note limited breakfast options, the overall experience is highly praised for its originality and value. [^R1, ^R2, ^M1, ^T2]

"What a little gem this place is. I ended up here three mornings for their lovely little toast breakfast and coffee. The large piece of bread comes with an egg carton filled with home-made spreads, both savoury and sweet. Coffee is excellent. Seating is inside an antique shop, so you are surrounded by all things vintage. Such a vibe. There is also outdoor seating in a little alley. Cost of breakfast with coffee is €3. Best spot in the Old Town of Malaga."

"Very nice place to go and eat and enjoy the great atmosphere in Malaga. The place is very authentic, it is a restaurant that doubles as an antique store. All the rooms are all with lots of old features. The service was great and also the food, sadly there was only one kind of breakfast. Toast wilth lots off different spreads. And you can choose between coffee or orange juice. It would have been nice if there was the ability to also have eggs. I would recommend to go there enjoy the typical spanish atmosphere."

"A Quirky and Fun Breakfast Spot!

This place is a truly unique breakfast experience! When you walk in, it feels like you’ve stepped into a vintage thrift store—full of charm and character.

The breakfast menu is simple yet original: spreads and jams served in paper egg cartons, alongside toast. It’s not your typical meal, but the presentation and creativity are fantastic.

The prices are very reasonable, and it’s a solid 10/10 for originality. If you’re looking for something different and memorable, this is the place to go! 🥚🍞✨"

We’ve already established that La Recova is one of our favorite spots for breakfast in Malaga, but believe it or not, this quirky and charming cafe also provides a wonderful variety of local tapas starting at midday. With seafood favorites such as pulpo, a delicious charcuterie selection, and caracoles (snails) for those willing to step out of their culinary comfort zone, this cozy locale is the perfect place to stop for a bite. What makes it especially interesting, though, is the setting—it’s also a shop selling artisan and antique homewares and decorations.

What to breakfast in Malaga

Our first pick of great spots for breakfast to cycle to in Malaga takes you into the heart of the old quarter, just around the corner from San Juan Church (pop inside to take a look if it’s open early). La Recova has been serving traditional breakfast for years in an arts and crafts shop. Tables and chairs are pretty small so be prepared for not much elbow room, but the great toast and spreads (savoury and sweet) more than compensate.

The place is not visible to passers-by, because it is hidden in a narrow, side street, and it is also an ordinary shop with handmade crafts from Malaga and Andalusia. The restaurant is hidden inside, inconspicuously between shelves with jugs, jewelry and old furniture. There is one breakfast offer, but rich and actually the only one in the city center.
