This wine bar from the team behind London’ s Barrafina was a big deal when it opened a few years ago, and the almost unbelievably long bar top is still packed pretty much all the time. Order as you go while watching the chefs working away in the open kitchen. Some sizzling Padrón peppers, delicately fried zucchini flowers bursting with gooey melted goat’s cheese, and the individually cooked tortillas are great places to start, paired with something from the list of local Mallorcan wines.

On the edge of Sant Jaume, El Camino is one of the hottest and slickest eateries in Palma so it’s little surprise to learn that its co-creator is Eddie Hart, founder of successful Barrafina in London. Poised and stylish, this cool den oozes confidence with its marble topped speakeasy bar, mirrored wall and perky line up of red bar stools. There’s an old-style Parisian glamour to the gold wall lights, while the menu pulsates with tempting creations.

Opened five years ago by Eddie Hart — the British owner of Barrafina in London — this contemporary tapas bar is largely credited with having kickstarted the transformation in Palma’s tapas scene.

The creators of London’s trendy ‘Barrafina’ tapas restaurants brought ‘ El Camino’ to Palma in 2018. Despite launching just before the world went into lockdown, this popular haunt blew through the Covid-19 fog and continues to be the talk of the town. Tucked away in a tiny street behind the famous and elegant ‘Platan’ tree-lined boulevard of Passeig des Born, the stylish, modern and welcoming bistro interior alone would easily invite passers-by… were it not for the eye-catching daily queue which forms in the street outside.

Just a stone’s throw away from our office on Passeig Born is one of our favourite tapas bars, El Camino. Hidden down a cobbled street, we love this small but stylish eatery which provides all the Spanish ideals of sitting at a long countertop bar sipping cava and eating unique creations of locally produced tapas. Eddie Hart of London’s Michelin starred Barrafina moved back to Mallorca to open the restaurant and apply his new found mediterranean philosophy of poc a poc.

El Camino is a place for sharing values, a lifestyle and an approach to life. Its philosophy involves enjoying life poc a poc, or bit by bit: the Mediterranean, its people, its bounty and the finest ingredients. Tucked away in the streets around the Paseo del Borne in the old town of Palma, its menus have been designed to enable a little bit of everything to be sampled: Mediterranean cooking, delicious tapas and dishes for sharing.

Perhaps the most famous tapas bar in Palma, El Camino is certainly worthy of the hype. We arrived just as they opened their doors for lunch service to find a queue had already formed so booking ahead to avoid disappointment is imperative, as it’s a small room with mainly allocated bar seating. We enjoyed courgette flowers stuffed with goat’s cheese, chicory, pear and blue cheese salad, more tortilla and perfectly cooked scallops.

A new opening in Palma’s gastronomic scene, we’re loving the vibes at ‘El Camino’. Base don the best seasonal fare, they offer creative tapas and dishes to share in addition to spectacular homemade desserts. You can not book a table, as ‘El Camino’ welcomes visitors to dine on high-stools at the long bar having a close look at how everything is prepared!

Since El Camino opened in 2019, the restaurant has basically been fully booked. It is an amazing restaurant, in the center of Palma with a modern Spanish tapas menu based on local produce and celebrating simplicity. Our favorite dishes are the zucchini flowers filled with goat cheese and Mallorcan honey drizzled on top and the grilled octopus mojo rojo.

It takes a brave Englishman to open a tapas restaurant in Palma, but not when that man is Eddie Hart. Eddie was one of the brothers behind the successful Spanish restaurants, Fino and Barrafina, in London. With the launch of El Camino five years ago, Eddie brought a new level of sophistication and vibrancy to Palma’s tapas scene.

Eddie Hart, one of the founders of Barrafina, is the man behind this restaurant in Palma. Like Barrafina, El Camino serves Spanish tapas at a no-reservations countertop, with the chefs and waiters working opposite the diners. Also like Barrafina, be prepared to get there early and join the queue.

A perfect date night location on our list is El Camino in Palma. On their menu are small dishes to share, prepared with ingredients from local markets and suppliers. These dishes are accompanied with an excellent wine list and a great atmosphere (take a seat at the bar with open kitchen!).

Having conquered London with the game-changing Barrafina tapas bars (including the Michelin-starred Soho original), as well as Fino and Quo Vadis, Eddie moved away from his brothers for the sunnier climes of Mallorca and partnered with singer-songwriter Samuel Gough to launch El Camino.
