"What an amazing experience! Driving to the restaurant, we wondered if we were in the right place, but then we saw the twinkling lights draped over the front door and knew we had found it. We'll take great food over atmosphere any day, but Canela has wonderful ambiance. The chef was lighting the fire in the dining room fireplace as we arrived and his wife greeted us warmly and sat us promptly, asking if we wanted drinks at the bar first.

The food was fantastic - we had the french onion soup to warm up on a cool evening, which can be too salty at some places, but here it was perfectly done and tasted delicious. We each finished our bowls to the last drop. The soup was piping hot!

A few surprises - an amuse bouche packed with flavor and the hot garlic bread - both surpassed expectations. The lamb skewers were absolutely delicious, smoky from the fire. The beef stroganoff was also wonderful - I got to eat the mushrooms and had a taste of the beef.

And I can't say enough about the service - attentive, personable, checking on us, but leaving us time to eat and enjoy our meal while she attended to others in the dining room. I loved the offer to either prepare the main dishes immediately after the soup or give us a few minutes respite in between courses. We're only in the area for a week, but we may make time for a second meal here to try some of the other dishes. This was a top notch experience!"
