Mesón El Monasterio

As the name suggests, the Mesón El Monasterio occupies a former 17th-century monastery (and finca). It was was bought by a family in the 1990s, when it was renovated and opened as a dining destination comprising several restaurants. The complex retains plenty of romantic old-world charm, while its location at the foot of a volcano surrounded by fields and large gardens makes for a particularly lovely setting for a meal for two.

A former monastery turned gastro-gathering of traditional restaurants on a sprawling hillside overlooking Los Realejos. The four distinct eateries serve a range of food from paella to flaming sausages. All look like something out of a medieval film set, and while white-shirted waiters roam the dining rooms, peacocks parade through the leafy grounds and cloistered courtyards.

Set in a former monastery at the foot of a volcano in the north of the island, this beautiful venue has large grounds and gardens to explore and even some resident animals for the kids to meet. There are several different areas to eat, each with different atmosphere and cuisine. ‘The Terraces’ are laid back open air spaces ideal for lunch, El Mirador Café stands out for its breakfasts, brunches and snacks, whilst Hacienda San Pedro is an elegant fish restaurant.

El Monasterio: In Tenerife, this term is unfailingly reminiscent of the prestigious inn of Los Realejos, an architectural and gastronomic emblem of the island. It was one of the pioneers of this type of service, with The Monastery Brunch; today it offers five different options, with the glass of champagne always as an emblem. The farm, the banana plantation, the gardens and the gourmet store complete the scenery.
