Geralds Bar is highly praised for its inventive Spanish and Italian cuisine, impressive wine selection, and cozy, lively atmosphere. Many reviewers rave about the quality of ingredients and the overall dining experience. However, some patrons have encountered issues with service, particularly citing instances of rude management and grumpy waiters.
"We had a splendid dinner! the food couldn't be better, and there's a wide selection of vegetarian options as well! The ambience and service is also excellent, ah great desserts! duper highly recommended!"
Gal Florsheim
"Walked in and was fortunate to get a seat at the bar. Seems to be a popular restaurant and I can see why now. The Tartare was delicious as was the smoker tuna with a tasty ratatouille to complement the flavour. Nice bread, solid wine pours. Staff were friendly and spoke perfect English. Most definitely recommend heading to the area to try this place."
Uncle Ned
"This bar has real class, with a cozy atmosphere that feels almost like a French bistro. The food was amazing — fresh, well-prepared, and full of flavor. We arrived late and some items from the short menu were already sold out, but the staff offered us excellent alternatives that didn’t disappoint. A great experience overall! The dishes we had are listed on the receipt"

‘When in Rome' - San Sebastian Food And Drink with Eric Matthews
San Sebastian has a great social scene for restaurants and to be fair most places have a great selection of drinks but Gerald’s Bar has something a bit different, which I really enjoyed. Sitting at the bar sipping an aperitif before heading off on a gastronomic journey is the thing to do. However you may make the same mistake I did and start ordering everything from the menu.
The 12 Best Restaurants in San Sebastian
Originating from Melbourne, this Gerald’s Bar has successfully transferred its cosy and authentic atmosphere to Gros. The restaurant is characterised by its traditional architecture featuring old stone, beaten copper, and massive wooden beams, providing a warm and inviting environment. A highlight of Gerald’s Bar is its impressive selection of wines.
Honest San Sebastián - Eat and drink in San Sebastian... the honest truth
Gerald’s Bar was stablished by an Aussie who came to live in our city some decades ago. Nowadays he doesn’t reside here anymore but its essence and good work remains amongst us. Let’s details its highlights and downsides: Classic decor, with a certain bistrot air, including linen tablecloths and silver cutlery, also napkin rings.
The Best Informal Restaurants to Book in San Sebastián
This wasn’t on our radar initially, but after our first surf lesson, we asked our instructor for local recommendations. Gerald’s Bar was his top pick, and we’re so glad we asked because it was delicious!. We went straight after our lesson and asked for a table—they were fully booked but had seats at the bar.
12 Great Places for Craft Beer in San Sebastián, Spain
Geralds Bar mostly focuses on wines & pintxos, but they also have a selection of local craft beer. Their original location is in Melbourne, Australia, but owner Gerald Diffey loved San Sebastián so much that he chose the city as his second bar location.
San Sebastián/Donostia
Also on my radar were Geralds Bar, Mendaur Berria, Ganbara, Txepetxa, and Borda Berri. If you go, it’s nice to have a list of places to go but also great just to wander and see what looks good. If a place looks fun, go for it!
Where to Drink a Negroni in San Sebastián
This spot has the coziest ambience in town, and I love a good lowly lit negroni at its bar. They just know how to mix one. You can order an extra-dirty version with olive juice (love!) and they won’t bat an eye.
