Reviews Summary
Txoko Jatetxea is celebrated for its renowned seafood paella and fresh catches, offering a taste of traditional Basque cuisine. While many praise the quality of the food and the cozy ambiance, some diners have noted inconsistencies in service and occasionally found dishes to be overpriced or not up to par. The restaurant's location and potential for great views are often highlighted, but occasional service hiccups and food quality concerns are present in some reviews.
"We had mixed sallad and Paella for lunch, superb taste! In the evening we went back and had a great dinner with both fish and meat, also tasted wonderful!"

"Accidentally found good reviews about paella so went there to try for lunch.
Great view from upstairs. Service was a bit slow as one staff was managing a lot of tables alone.
Paella was good but not as good as Valencia. Clams were not in good condition but mussels were really chunky and meaty. Didn’t expect peas in it so that was different.
There are some other paella or arroz options in old town but this is slightly outside but reasonable option.
Lemon sorbet with cava was perfect for dessert!"

"Txoko is in a great location near the aquarium and with great view of the harbor if seated upstairs. However, on this night (the Wednesday before Easter), we were one of only four tables in the entire restaurant. Our two young teen servers were sweet and polite but definitely not trained to serve a nice restaurant on their own. Our server delivered the wine and promptly sat the bottle on the table and walked away. No tasting or pouring into glasses. And this is one of the finer restaurants in town! She did the same with the bottle of water.
The grilled baby squid was tough and flavorless. However, the peppers and stuffed spider crab in sauce were excellent, as were the grilled scallops though portions were small. The traditional French toast was also good.
They have a decent wine list at reasonable prices.
I would never recommend or return to this establishment."
