With chairs so comfortable you may never want to leave, Café Tertulia has that welcoming vibe that just lures you in. And if you’re an expat missing home, this is the place to come for nostalgia, as they serve both American and English style breakfasts. Buttery, soft pastries and typical café con leche are served throughout the day, although the breakfast here is the star of the show.

By now, your morning coffee has probably worn off, so to fight the late-afternoon slump and post-meal drowsiness, start walking due west of the cathedral down the residential Rúa das Hortas until you get to Café Tertulia at Rúa do Pombal, Nº 2. This cozy coffee shop’s got whimsical wallpaper, mismatched tea cups, and welcoming baristas that will make you feel at home as you watch the car and foot traffic pass by. You could order some more coffee here, but I always like to get tea since they’ve got an extensive collection of loose-leaf tea that they serve in cute, cast-iron teapots (unlike most cafés, which charge you a euro for a stale teabag).

There are some fantastic places to eat in Santiago de Compostela, but we began our days there in the quaint Cafe Tertulia. Combining a wide range of sweet and savoury dishes with excellent coffee, this bustling café is an ideal place to fuel up on a hearty breakfast washed down with a café con leche. Just a five-minute walk from the old town, be sure to enjoy the outdoor terrace which is a great spot for people watching.

Snag a seat along the street-side terrace at one of Santiago’s best coffee shops, Café Tertulia. The interior is a mix of exposed brick and blood-red wallpaper (patterned with cartoon dogs posing on chairs), creating an atmosphere that’s cozy and kitsch. Latte art and croissants make for the perfect pairing here, but the juices have also garnered a local following.

Perhaps it’s the floral place settings, the variety of teas, or the bacon-inclusive breakfast options, but there’s a distinctly British feel to Café Tertulia. A five minute walk from the old town, this bustling cafe is well-worth the effort of getting here. Perched on a junction, it’s a great spot for people watching from the terrace and serves up a host of different breakfasts. Tostadas is the name of the game here – try with peach jam or a more savoury topping.

Café Tertulia boasts pleasant indoor and outdoor seating, with a lovely street-side terrace, perfect for people watching and a hot cup of coffee or an evening cocktail. If you are a coffee person, you cannot miss the unique mix coffee + croissant served in this cosy place. Food is exceptional as well.

My sister took me to breakfast and the service, the atmosphere and especially the food were truly incredible. We are both celiacs and they had toast options that were brutal and they also gave us some gluten-free cookies with our coffee. A 10, I will repeat without hesitation on the next visit.

En este acogedor local, en la rúa del Pombal, el zumo es quien maneja la reunión. El de naranja natural es, obviamente, un invitado habitual, pero también hay de pomelo rosa, zanahoria o arándanos. Un buen chute de vitaminas es justo lo necesario para un buen día paseando por Compostela.

The waiter immediately understood the issues and showed me what they could do gluten free on the menu, which was a good variety. I ordered a coffee along with a couple of other items. My coffee arrived first with a cookie.
