Reviews Summary

Abantal offers a highly praised fine dining experience with innovative Andalusian cuisine and attentive service. Diners rave about the beautifully presented, flavorful tasting menus and the excellent wine pairings. While most reviews are glowing, a few mention that some dishes can taste similar, and one reviewer found the food overpriced for the quality received.

"We had an incredible dinner at Abantal. Everything was perfect from beginning to end. The food was absolutely delicious; we did the 9 course tasting menu with the wine pairing. Every dish was a knockout, and the wine was delicious.

The service was spot on. They succeeded at delivering attentive service without coming off as too much, or over bearing. The timing of the dishes and wine was just right, every dish and wine was beautifully explained and they were very accommodating.

We highly recommend Abantal. This was the best meal we've had so far in Spain.

Props to the entire team for a wonderful experience."

"We had such a lovely evening!!
The food was brilliant and the service was fantastic. It was presented beautifully and all the flavors were exciting and delicious.

We loved every dish. We were lucky and were able to get the special chef's table - being invited to watch was a really special experience. The head chef came over to check on us, thank us and it was lovely to meet him.
I would absolutely recommend a visit here."

"Abantal in Seville was a really lovely lunch. The service was attentive.
We tried the tasting menu and most of the dishes stood out with beautiful presentation. We really enjoyed the wine pairing and the desserts were delicious.
The decor is modern and clean. The dining room is spacious, calm, and it gets busy at lunch time. Overall it was a great experience and I see why they a Michelin star."

Slightly off the beaten path but worth seeking, chef Julio Fernández's tasting menu takes you on a journey of the senses featuring seemingly ordinary local produce and traditional recipes elevated with unusual textures and preparations. The menu changes with the seasons, but always has nine dishes (€95) or 12 (€115) as well as extra-virgin-olive-oil menus. The long wine list includes local, Spanish, and international labels, and there are wine-pairing options.

Discover the Michelin star restaurants in Andalucia

In the beautiful city of Seville is the restaurant Abantal, a minimalist modern space made with cold materials, such as granite and steel, in combination with warm and noble ones, such as oak, all of which makes this a lovely place to be. But the really important place is the kitchen under the management of chef Julio Fernandez which mixes traditional ingredients with other more daring ones, evoking sensory Arabic experiences. If you come here, you can try the Iberian pork and acorn salad marinated with cherries, walnuts and raisins, or carpaccio of red tuna belly with roasted vegetable gazpacho and Xerez vinegar ice cream.

The Definitive Guide: 10 Best Restaurants in Andalusia

It is run by the only chef in Seville to hold a Michelin star, Julio Fernandez Quintero, a man utterly obsessed with only using the finest, freshest ingredients to update Andalusian classics with aplomb. Yet, Quintero’s cooking is never fussy or impenetrable; on the contrary, there is a welcome, understated approach to the food and the restaurant itself, situated on a nondescript side street far from Seville’s historic center. You could start with the Iberian pork and codfish “paella,” followed by lamb neck stuffed with chards stewed and apple and fennel salad.

With simplistic but very stylish interior décor across one sizeable room, the focus at Abantal (Calle Alcalde José de la Bandera; abantalrestaurante.es) is strictly on the food, as overseen by chef/co-owner Julio Fernández Quintero. Mains are priced in the region of €25-€35 (give or take a euro or two), and feature such inventive yet unembellished combinations as oyster with cream of corn and dill, caramelised lamb sweetbread with Moorish cream and beetroot, and marinated Iberian pork shoulder, pumpkin, and mushroom. Needless to say, reservations are essential.
