Los Coloniales

Mini-franchise Los Coloniales has two always-packed restaurants in Seville. The smallest is on the corner of two attractive streets in San Pedro, a residential neighbourhood north of Santa Cruz whilst the other – Taberna Coloniales – occupies a historic building opposite the cathedral. Head to the first for a bright, open bar with an outside terrace, or to the latter for heavier decor and a more traditional ambience.

Head to Los Coloniales, a down to earth tapas joint with playful waiters and cheap grub (dishes from £2.25). Try the hearty classic solomillo al whisky – pork in whisky and garlic sauce. Arrive by 8pm to bag a table outside.

Los Coloniales (Plaza Cristos de Burgos, 19) is still dishing up generous portions of solomillo al whiskey smothered in garlic and drenched with whiskey and olive oil. And Casa Morales (Calle García de Vinuesa, 11) is still full of visitors squealing at the sight of gulas, fake baby eels made of pressed fish (like “krab” in the US), a popular replacement for anguilas (real baby eels), a delicacy that’s become prohibitively expensive.

Taberna Los Coloniales is undoubtedly the best place to experience traditional tapas in the city. You can expect a strictly Sevillan experience, with top-notch food and a reasonable bill. The Jámon ibérico and fried eggplant with honey are the specialties, as is the chicken with almond sauce — portions also tend to be on the larger side here, always a plus.

If you’re looking for a unique dining experience in Seville, look no further than Los Coloniales. This quaint and cozy restaurant serves up some of the most delicious Spanish dishes in the city. Also, the menu is packed with traditional tapas dishes like oxtail stew, patatas bravas, and shrimp with garlic and parsley, as well as some more modern fare.

Over at Plaza del Cristo de Burgos 19, Taberna Los Coloniales is another classic which attracts both locals and visitors in equal measure (in fact, it’s so popular that it tends to fill up quickly, and if there are no tables when you arrive, you’ll be added to a chalkboard out front and wait to be called). On sunny days, its sidewalk tables are a joy.

Los Coloniales is well established and has two locations in Seville. The first is near Casa Morales with extremely charming old-world style and great food, but consistently packed with locals and tourists alike. Their second location, where I decided to try, is near the Setas de Sevilla along a quiet square with trees and benches.

Budget hunters tend to chow down at Taberna Los Coloniales (C/Cristo de Brugos, 19) for big plates at a low cost. Bodega Las Columnas (C/ de Rodrigo Caro, 1) is another cheap option with plenty of charm, just out of the shadow of the Giralda. With beer at 1,10€ and tapas as low as 2,20€, you can still fill up without a huge bill.

It is called Los Coloniales, but be careful what time you decide to go because there are often huge waiting lists. If the list isn't very long, I recommend that you wait, because the food and the price is worth it. Don't be fooled by the word 'tapas' because none of the food in this place is 'small'.

For a fast paced, full-flavoured selection of tapas, head to Los Coloniales. It’s just a few blocks from the cathedral yet a world away from the mediocre tourist traps. Be prepared to queue and be prepared to jostle your way to the bar, but once you have, your tastebuds will thank you.

Los Coloniales – Plaza Cristo de Burgos 19, in the Encarnación neighbourhood close to the Metropol Parasol. But, what about completing the day with a walking tour from the rooftops?. It would be the perfect plan!

At Los Coloniales you’ll be treated to a friendly atmosphere in which to enjoy a few beers and sample some of the delicious tapas dishes. Both food and drink are very reasonably priced.

Bustling local favorite tapas bar with laid back vibes and affordable prices. This place does fill up but it’s worth the wait.
