Try as many flavours as possible by ordering some smaller plates, tapas style.

Book ahead at Ricard Camarena’s fun Canalla Bistro, where the menu mixes Spanish and Asian flavours and includes Galician beef burger and soft shell crab bao. Have your last drink in the kitsch surroundings of La Bella de Cádiz, a bar that feels a bit like an antique shop.

Following a very similar concept to Mercat Bar, Canalla Bistro is one of the city’s much-hyped new gastro bars that has placed Michelin-starred expertise at the disposal of ordinary people. This time is the celebrity chef is Ricard Camarena, and if you can’t afford his lauded flagship restaurant then you almost certainly can afford to tuck into his cuisine just around the corner in this uberhip bistro. The interior is decorated with wooden brick-like panels, matt black furniture and finishes and egg-carton foam glued to the walls, creating a late night bar vibe and the menu consists of classic dishes from around the world, but especially Asia, in tapas form.

Unfortunately, I’ve not had a chance to visit Canalla Bistro yet, but as it’s by Ricard Camarena, I feel very confident in my recommendation. Ricard Camarena has several restaurants, one of which has two Michelin stars and one Green Star for sustainability, and he is without a doubt the best of the best in Valencia’s culinary scene. Camarena blends Asian and Italian cuisine effortlessly, with dishes including mozzarella stuffed with cuttlefish and corvina with green curry, avocado cannelloni with marinated tuna and wasabi mayonnaise, and miso eggplant.

A few days before I arrived in Valencia for the first time back in 2018, chef Ricard Camarena won a second Michelin star at his eponymous restaurant. But for those of us who don’t have the funds to splash on Michelin-starred dining, Camarena also has a couple of more affordable restaurants in the city – including Canalla Bistro on the outskirts of the Russafa neighbourhood. Think international fusion dishes that aren’t afraid of bold, spicy flavours.

Don’t miss this sweet and fruity coffee that has found its way into haute cuisine (or yours!).

Camarena’s most electric and relaxed restaurant is Canalla Bistro in the Ruzafa district. The decor is all New York style, with subtle touches like plastic pig heads on the walls. You’ll find the whole world on the plates, which include creative dishes such as pastrami sandwiches, taco with slow-roasted pork, smoked beer nigiri and avocado cannelloni with marinated tuna and salsa.

Het schijnt wel af en toe een beetje haastig te gaan want ik heb gehoord dat mensen binnen één uur weer buiten stonden omdat er nog drie shifts doorheen gejaagd moesten worden. Maar toch wel een must go als je hier langer bent. Want het eten is bijzonder, heel erg lekker en Canalla Bistro valt toch wel in de categorie één van de betere restaurants van Valencia.

Cheesecake is one of the many things that Valencia does brilliantly. Golden on the outside, gooey in the middle and properly cheesy. At Canalla Bistro, Ricard Camarena serves a top-notch slice which holds its shape (just).

This was my least favorite place that we ate at, but worth mentioning because it is a restaurant open on Sunday in Valencia, which is hard to come by.

A england chef that I served at a restaurant told me that Canalla Bistro is a fantastic experience. So as most here you can Google it.
