What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Rausell is lauded as a Valencian institution with impeccable product quality, particularly for its seafood and traditional dishes. Diners rave about the professional service and lively atmosphere, especially at the bar. While generally a safe bet for an excellent meal, some note potential struggles with language barriers and that the price point is on the higher side, suitable for special occasions.
"Cozy and comfortable restaurant with local market food. We tried their famous patatas bravas and didn’t disappoint. Calamares, gambas al ajillo and parrillada de verduras were also delicious, as so was the meat. In this case we tried the entrecot. Overall the price is a bit expensive but worth for special occasions. The deserts are also homemade and delicious. You also should try the cremaet"

"A completely wonderful dining experience. This is Taste of Valencia. Every dish seasoned to perfection. Every bite a heavenly experience. I cannot get over how amazing this place was.
Valencian locals call it the BEST RESTAURANT in Valencia and I know why. Every dish will leave a beautiful memory in your mouth!
Oriana - our Venezuelan waitress was so helpful and definitely this is the place to dine when you come to. Valencia.
It is Five Star Worthy!"

"This is a popular tapas bar where locals rather than tourists turned up. If you don’t have the language, it may be a bit of a struggle as the staff & all the menus are in Spanish. Food however, is really good if you are able to decipher what they are. Prices is not cheap, similar to all the more expensive tapas bars around. For atmosphere, it’s really great in front. The back room is much less so. I particularly like their oysters & baby squids which I think are superb."

Best restaurants Valencia, Spain
Blending traditional and modern decor, this is dearly loved by locals for its fabulous tapas at the long bar and excellent sit-down food in the restaurant. Cold morsels are on display and reliably excellent traditional and avant-garde bites are cooked to order. Seafood is spectacularly good, and rices very tasty.

One of the most complete tapas bars in Valencia, whose tapas you can enjoy in an intimate corner or at the bar informally. Led by brothers José and Miguel Rausell, the third generation of their gastronomic family, this eponymous 75-year-old restaurant is a Valencian institution. It is split into three sections – a bar, a restaurant and an area dedicated to takeaway – each serving tapas, sandwiches and main dishes made from the very finest local produce, with a focus on seafood, meat and rice. The long, central bar is a hive of activity for lively conversations over good food and coffee or a glass of wine from one of 150 labels.
7 Must-Try Tapas Dishes in Valencia - Beyond Paella
Patatas bravas is a simple and essential Spanish tapas dish that consists of roasted potatoes with garlic (aioli) sauce and a slightly spicy salsa made with Spanish smoked paprika. Cheap and heart-warmingly delicious, this seemingly uncomplicated tapa can be pretty mediocre at some places, so be sure to get some proper bravas at Rausell, one of the most emblematic tapas bars in Valencia (where they also make amazing Valencian rice dishes!). The guide to 16 great wine restaurants and wine bars in Valencia 2025
With over 70 years of history, Rausell is a lovely traditional place that is on the top of the list of many local foodies. Situated just outside of the center of the busy Old Town, it’s visited mostly by locals ― it’s not a place for passers-by. The setting is a little more formal than most places, with tables covered with white linen (and no music), but the enjoyment of the guests makes up for that.
The 10 Best Restaurants for Local Cuisine in Valencia
Bar Rausell has been a point of reference for gourmets in Valencia since 1948. Its traditional cooking is simple yet flavoursome, and never disappointing. We can recommend the paella, the arroz al horno (baked rice), the fideuà (a dish that is similar to paella but prepared with pasta instead of rice), the berenjenas rellenas (stuffed eggplants) and the croquettes.
