Los Zagales

Located in the downtown area of Valladolid, Los Zagales is not only one of the area’s most famous tapas restaurants, it’s also hailed as its most creative. Set in a traditional Spanish-style locale, this multi-level restaurant features award-winning dishes by chef Antonio González García that are playful and imaginative. From edible hand rolled “cigars” comprised of shredded pork and sweet tomatoes to Tigretoston, a black bread morcilla, or Spanish blood sausage cooked with red onion and pork rinds and wrapped in custom-designed packaging made to look like a brand of Spanish pastries, this restaurant is a perennial crowd pleaser from beginning to end.

Throughout its history, Michelin-starred chefs have recognized the Lechazo Taj Mahal as the Best Tapas in Spain (served at Don Bacalao restaurant in Plaza de las Brígidas and Puerto Chico on Nicasio Pérez Street), as well as the Bocata de Calamares wrapped in obulato and Tigretostón (both from Los Zagales on the street Pasión, just off Plaza Mayor). Additionally, the Silver Medal went to the sardine ceviche with kombu seaweed and black garlic (you can find it at Villaparamesa in Plaza de Martí y Monsó, also near the Town Hall) and Copa y Puro (Los Zagales).

Built in the 1950s along the left bank of the Pisuerga river, this tiny sand strip set in a lovely park has allowed entire generations of residents to enjoy the sun and the beach atmosphere without leaving the city. Of course, it won’t have the same charm as the Lido of Venice or La Croisette in Cannes, but what better place to relax and reflect after a long movie marathon?. It is just a 10-minute walk from the theatre but you can take a longer stroll along the river to stretch your legs.

Con varios premios en el Concurso Nacional de Pinchos, este local es perfecto para probar sus pinchos más famosos como el premiado Tigretostón o el Obama en la Casa Blanca. Si no eres de tapas o pinchos, puedes pedir el menú que no llega a 20 euros y tienes casi 20 platos para elegir, tanto de primero como de segundo.

A few meters from this place is one of the most awarded tapas bars of the city, Los Zagales. They offer a great option of really creative tapas. You will be thrilled eating the baguetina, including the “plastic bag” in which it is encased and you will be haunted by the smell of the white smoke coming out of another tapa appropriately named Aroma or digging with your spoon in one of their most celebrated tapa named Obama in the White House.

Perhaps one of the more famous options is Los Zagales whose creations court both admiration and controversy. Where else could you eat something that looks like a Cuban cigar?. And for extreme political incorrectness you just have to try their most celebrated dish, Obama in the White House, which is potatoes, pitch black after being soaked in squid ink then fried, mushroom sauce and egg served in a gleaming white ceramic dish.

El hostelero Antonio González está empeñado en conquistar al comensal vallisoletano con sus arroces. Su carta ofrece variedad y calidad de este sabroso cereal. En su coqueto comedor a dos alturas ofrece distintas recetas, entre las que destaca una de forma muy especial, el arroz negro con chipirones, cuya presentación, rematada con dos pétalos de rosas y micromezclum, hace que se coma con los ojos.

Un lugar con varios premios a sus espaldas (ganador del Pincho de Oro varias veces, del Concurso de Bocadillos de Autor Madrid Fusión y un Arzak de plata en el Concurso Mundial de Pinchos en San Sebastián) Casi ná. Un imprescindible para ir de tapeo en Valladolid. Su pincho más famoso es el « Tigretostón«, ganador del Concurso Nacional de Tapas y Pinchos en 2011.

Para finalizar, y no por ello menos importante, los famosos pinchos y tapas, que suponen una forma distinta de comer en Valladolid.
