📍 Coconut Sambol, Church Street, Galle Fort I can’t believe we were so close to leaving without having sampled their home made ginger beer. Luckily we ordered one which was the BEST decision of the day 🍺 We wish they bottled this stuff up so you could buy and take home. 🍛 The buffet curry was also delicious, so delicious we had seconds. #gingerbeer #srilanka #coconutsambol #gallefortsrilanka #ga...

"Lovely place to come to try a range of different Sri Lankan dishes - it was a buffet with a choice of 6 different curries (3 of which were vegetarian) and rice. The food was tasty and it was an all you can eat buffet. I would definitely recommend this if you want to try some traditional Sri Lankan dishes"

Charlotte Kember

"Omg being a Indian vegetarian i thought the food would be normal nothing special. But the moment it goes to your mouth that's when magic happens. Each dish is special here, great taste and love.
Also don't forget to try ginger beer which is actually not a beer rather pineapple, ginger juice. It's amazing in taste, so fresh and refreshing in the hot weather."

A blink-and-miss establishment along Church Street, this tiny eatery modelled on a mud-built village home seats about eight people. Every day, the kitchen sets up a delicious home-cooked Sri Lankan rice and curry buffet priced at around Rs. 500, with six vegan and vegetarian dishes including coconut-based curries, and one meat curry. Expect hearty, homely food at perhaps the best rice-and-curry spot in all of Galle.

The best restaurants and bars in Galle

This always-packed, decidedly casual rice & curry joint is perhaps the only Galle Fort spot for a satisfying local style lunch. It’s housed in a tiny, narrow strip—you’ll surely miss this little gem if not for the restaurant’s large signpost. It’s delicious, no-frills, homely island fare, like the food your grandma cooks for you—the everyday lunchtime rice & curry buffet offers 4-6 curry dishes and condiments like coconut sambol made with grated coconut, dried red chilli, and lime.

Galle Fort, Sri Lanka

We are told this by a local restaurant owner Zam, whose place, Coconut Sambol, we stumble into for dinner. It happened to be his second night of operation so he welcomes us excitedly into the tiny 10-seater restaurant that he has transformed from a gem store just days before. It's the coconuts dangling in the doorway and the sight of curry buffet running along one wall that draws us in.

The Definitive List of the Best Restaurants in Galle, Sri Lanka

I’m obsessed with the name of this next winner from the best restaurants in Galle Sri Lanka, epitomizing the very essence of Sri Lankan cuisine: coconut and sambol. In this tropical country, sambol refers to a spicy coconut-based condiment, “pol sambol.” As you can see, the name of this restaurant couldn’t be more befitting if it tried.

History and Beach Bliss in Galle and Sri Lanka's South Coast

I had a tasty and filling dinner at Coconut Sambol, a tiny, cosy restaurant that has an all-you-can-eat buffet for 2,350 LKR (£6). They had about eight or nine different curries, many of them vegetarian, served with rice. Their homemade ginger beer was good too — although even the 'sweet' version was pretty spicy!
