The area around Tredje Långgatan has been buzzing for a long time. What was once part of Gothenburg’s hard-working harbour area is now filled with trendy restaurants, bars and cafes. The latest addition is Auktionsverket, an old auction house converted into several restaurants, a wine bar, cafe, bakery and gallery.

We loved Tacos & Tequila for Mexican and Brewers Beer Bar for sourdough pizza and craft brews (lilac ale anyone?) If you’re only stopping in Gothenburg for a quick coffee or a bite, head over to Magasingatan, a pedestrian street in the city centre with yet more coffee and independent designer shops. A good choice for a coffee break is Da Matteo Torrefazione, with a sunny courtyard terrace, home-roasted coffee and lots of goodies baked in house.

Located in Tredje Långgatan, a street packed with restaurant and bars in an area which has been recently regenerated, Tacos & Tequila is the place to go if you love Mexican food. The dishes are best enjoyed when shared, and you can choose from a great selection of tacos, ceviches, quesadillas and other treats. Tacos & Tequila also offers a lunch set menu which changes everyday and includes dishes that you can’t find on their regular menu.

Though we search for local, seasonal food that tells the story of an area wherever we travel, sometimes you need something spicy and piquant. Here’s where Tacos & Tequila come in. Set along one of the best streets for eating in the entire city, tredje långgatan, this is hidden in a courtyard corner and reminds us of some of the best taquerias we’ve come across in different cities of the world.

A brick portal along Tredje Långgatan leads to a cozy courtyard with infrared heating, where you’ll find Tacos & Tequila, serving classic Mexican food. I’ll go here to listen to happy folk and Mexican tunes and get some Central American inspiration. They have a notable beer- and tequila-based drink menu and fair-priced, high-quality tacos and quesadillas.

It is a bit more casual than some of the others, but they definitely sell the best margaritas in the city and have some amazing tacos!. It is a regular restaurant for us, especially in the summer when it’s warm enough to sit outside!. The atmosphere at Tacos and Tequila is very urban, with industrial style interiors and an open kitchen!

**If you have read any guides about Gothenburg before this, Taco & Tequila is most likely mentioned. But I will mention it again because no tacos restaurant list would be complete without it. Not only can you find ingredients you never knew would be delicious in tacos, but they also have a list of fancy tequilas.

A lot of Gothenburg’s best bars are concentrated on Andra Långgatan (second long street). But recently the surrounding streets have been developing their own after-dark scenes. At the eastern end of Tredje Långgatan (third long street) you’ll find a cluster of smart bars that’s well worth checking out.
