Reviews Summary
Saltimporten Canteen is highly praised for its creative Nordic cuisine, offering Michelin-star quality food at affordable canteen prices. Diners rave about the fresh, seasonal ingredients, the delicious, unlimited bread, and the unique industrial-chic atmosphere. While some find the self-service model a bit basic, the exceptional food quality and value consistently bring people back.
"Absolutely amazing. Seasonal ingredients, focus on one dish and beautiful atmosphere as well as furniture.
The location is a bit outside, but it really fits the vibe perfectly. We were lucky enough to be there when they served beef tartar, and it was amazing. Great assortment of seasonal ingredients, delicious and flavorful mayo as well as dressings and the beef was incredibly good. Obviously grinded in house, as shown by the large chunks and variations in color.
Bread is plentiful and freshly baked and it was wonderful. You help yourself to as much as you want, which also goes for the water. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone and I will definitely come back next time I am In Malmø.
EDIT: Came back a second time and it was just as wonderful as the first time. Please never close this place, because I just initiated a new tradition where I have to visit this place every time I cross the bridge. It’s definitely one of my favorite places ever.
EDIT: Came back now for the third time. This place cannot disappoint. They’re still serving quality seasonal ingredients, they’re still serving fresh meals and they’re still making me as happy as they were the first time I came here. This time I had to tell the chefs. I come all the way from Copenhagen just because of this place. I had a pretty stressful day, and their food completely cured that and gave me a boost of happiness that I needed. The chefs rewarded my kindness with a loaf of their baguette. I hope they never change, Saltimporten Canteen is a national treasure. I can’t wait to come back again. Big love 🫶🏼❤️
EDIT: back for the fourth time.
Always good to be back. This might have become one of my favorite eateries ever. I always try to tell the chefs how much I appreciate eating here, but I think it’s difficult to convey how much I love it. I don’t know why, it’s a canteen… but not to me! To me it’s truly the essence of Nordic cooking. It’s just simple, it’s creative, it’s fresh and it’s tasty. Really the keyword here is just creative. I really really love it, and I recommend it to anyone. I will always always come back whenever I am in Sweden, it’s a must for me. I love the atmosphere, the people working there, the location and of course the food. The food has never disappointed. I hope this treasure keeps going for many years to come. This time we had chicken on a bed of pure with some lentils and salad on top. Once again simple, but the way they’re combining the ingredients and presenting the dish is just top notch as always. Once again, thanks for having us!"

"The world needs more no-nonsense lunch spots like this: two options per day, that’s it. Quick, tasty, and affordable—what more could you want? I see some negative reviews and honestly, if there are only two dishes (one meat, one veggie), you just trust the chef and pick one. Or both. But if you have allergies, maybe sit this one out instead of complaining afterwards."

"Had lunch at Saltimporten Canteen and really enjoyed it. The menu changes daily, and the dish I had with pork was tasty, even though I forgot the exact name. What really stood out for me though was the bread—fresh, delicious, and unlimited. Honestly, the kind of bread you keep going back for. Simple food, done really well."

In a figure-threatening week, I also had filling Syrian food at Shamiat (dishes from £5), high-end vegan fare matched with Chilean natural wine at Mineral (mains from £13), and a great-value Thai lunch from Green Mango (mains from £11), which I ate in bright spring sunshine in Folkets Park.
