Their breads are baked with biodynamic flour from the Saltå Kvarn mill in nearby Järna, and their dishes are cooked using seasonal ingredients and organic produce from KRAV-certified farms and growers. Don’t be surprised by long lunch queues.

Stop by Rosendals Trädgård cafe and bakery: it’s in a greenhouse among vibrant flower gardens and apple orchards and sells freshly baked organic treats like cinnamon buns and carrot cake, plus a rotating menu of warm dishes such as pan-seared Arctic char fillet with couscous (£13).

Situated near the Royal Djurgården Park is the Rosendals Trädgård. Here you will experience the beauty of nature and discover how different cultures affect gardening through history. This garden is also practising bio-dynamic agriculture and pedagogical education.

If a rest stop is required, take it at Rosendals Tradgard, a biodynamic garden with plots of vegetables and herbs, fields of wildflowers to gather, a greenhouse cafe and apple orchards offering shade to the weary.

Any guide would be entirely lacking without mentioning the absolute JOY that is a visit to Rosendals on the island of Djurgården. A drop of calmness and quiet in the midst of the Swedish capital, and a locals’ favourite, sitting in the orchard of Rosendals you feel like your troubles are a million miles away. More than just an organic cafe, Rosendals is also a garden centre where you can buy different seasonal plants, such as fresh flowers in spring, and bulbs in autumn, a bakery where you can buy bread, honey, various flavoured oils, and juice from their apple trees, and a zero-waste community, where any leftovers from the cafe are recycled into compost to spread on their allotments.

Considering Stockholm is the capital city, the pace of life is generally much more relaxed than other big cities like New York or London. However, if you still want a slice of the more peaceful life (like, even more peaceful than it already generally is), I highly recommend a visit to Rosendals Trädgård and its pretty garden cafe. Not only is the setting reminiscent of an English country garden (it’s hard to believe you’re anywhere near any city at all, here), but the little garden cafe in the greenhouses is a lovely spot to enjoy fika (or a casual lunch, if you’re a bit hungrier.)

The daily lunch -- candelabra-lit and served amidst the apple orchards -- changes daily but might include toothsome risotto or paella as well as wood-fired, house-made sourdough bread. You also have the option of grabbing little sandwiches on crisp baguettes or a cup of coffee with inexpensive, jam-centered cookies and spiced carrot cake.

One of the most picturesque suggestions we could possibly share, Rosendals Trädgård is located on the enchantingly beautiful green island of Djurgården, arguably the lungs of Stockholm city. Many will drop by solely to visit the ABBA Museum, Skansen or the Vasamuseet, but we beg of you: go a little further. Just at the edge of the royal park Kungliga Djurgården, stay a while and sip some coffee at the greenhouse cafe, where you can also feast on their organic and biodynamic produce, as well the best bakes from their in-house artisanal wood-fired bakery.

Sarah and I biked there from our first hotel, Oaxen (more to come about that in a minute) and fell in love with how charming and picturesque everything on the property was.

Located in the middle of a park on on Djurgården island, you'll feel like you're deep in the Swedish countryside. In reality, you're just a twenty-minute walk from the upmarket Östermalm district or a quick ferry ride from the city centre.

Rosendals Trädgård – Rosendalsterrassen 12, Djurgården, Stockholm: If this cafe and garden were closer I would visit them every day. They grow their own organic ingredients in the gardens surrounding the cafe grounds and the food and atmosphere are absolutely lovely, especially on a sunny day. On our first visit here one late February, early March, I saw many people sitting outdoors (it was still minus Celsius) taking in the sun.

Set in the western part of Djrgården, surrounded by beautiful apple orchards and flower gardens, the cosy organic cafe, charming shop and bakery inside grand greenhouses make an idyllic setting. Much of the produce served there is grown on-site and ranges from fresh salads, soups, sandwiches and delicious pastries.

Well, it might not be the best thing to do in winter time – maybe wait until the snow thaws…

We could go on and on but that should be enough to give you the feeling of this bakery – very exciting and seasonal. It’s an integral part of Rosendals Trädgård Bageri – the big open organic garden on the island of Djugården. Apart from the bakery, there is also a greenhouse café that serves food based on what the cooks find in the surrounding garden.

This café rests within the Rosendals’ Garden Foundation on the forested island of Djurgarden, neighbour to a garden center, farm shop and artisanal wood-burning bakery.
