Reviews Summary

Bistrot du Boeuf Rouge is highly praised for its exceptional steaks and authentic Lyonnais cuisine, served in a charming, retro brasserie atmosphere. Diners consistently rave about the friendly and efficient service, with many considering it a top dining destination in Geneva. While the intimate setting can be cozy, some find it a bit tight, and service may slow down during peak busy periods.

"I had a solo lunch here last week to taste the food. It was very, very good. Now I know where I will have a good pan-fried foie gras in Geneva ! Main course were scallops with artichokes which were very nicely done. I didn't have dessert because I was full already. The service was very warm, friendly and efficient. The atmosphere was of old style French brasserie (they serve home cooking Lyonnaise food), very lively and pleasant during the day. Prices were reasonable given the food portion and quality of cooking and produce. I don't eat beef so I don't know whether their steaks would be good but considering the dishes I have tried, I am sure they would be good. This is going to be one of my favorite restaurants in Geneva from now on. It's unfortunate that I haven't found it earlier. One down side - they are not open on the weekends at all. Highly recommended for French, European food in a relaxing (not posh) vibe."

"You NEED to get the chateaubriand sauce bearnaise. You must order it for two people minimum but it is so worth it. This was the last restaurant that we had in our two week trip to Switzerland and it didn’t let us down. In fact we rated it as our #1 restaurant we tried. I highly recommend making dinner reservations as it does get crowded. The beef was absolutely amazing. Perfectly cooked with such a unique flavor unlike most steaks I’ve had. The potato gratin was also delicious. Everything was amazing all the way down to the ice-cream. Service was extremely friendly as well. The restaurant itself is very tiny so space is tight inside. If you only have time to try one restaurant in Geneva make sure it’s this one!"

"This place was AWESOME! We had a wonderful dinner here - enjoyed a great steak, delicious escargot, tasty homemade French onion soup and the wines to pair! Staff was so fun and made it a very pleasant date night!

Admittedly, this Lyonnaise bistro doesn’t look particularly remarkable at first sight; whilst undeniably attractive, the old fashioned décor and vintage French posters that line the walls feel more restaurant-next-door than otherworldly culinary experience. But ignore Bistrot du Boeuf Rouge at your own tastebuds’ peril: the spectacular cooking at this haunt is one of Geneva’s best kept secrets. With not a single weak link across the menu, this is the restaurant that locals return to time and time again; and has there ever been a stronger case for gastronomic brilliance than that?
