What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Wirtshaus Galliker is celebrated for its authentic, home-style Swiss cuisine and warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes diners feel like locals. While the food is consistently praised for its deliciousness and traditional preparation, some visitors find the restaurant can get very loud, and a few have noted concerns about pricing and service practices.
"We had a lovely meal at the Wirtshaus Galliker! Everyone was extremely welcoming despite us being some of the few tourists sitting at dinner. The food was delicious- I had the classic Weinersnitzel and my dad had the Liver and we finished it off with a wonderful Apple Strudel! Can’t recommend this place enough for some good local eats."

"It's funny as I found this place as I asked. Chat GPT to give me the best restaurant in town for great food but not a fancy atmosphere and this was the top of the list. I read a bit about it and decided to go. She does a great, authentic Swiss restaurant. In fact, there were really not many tourists there and there was a lot of locals there showing that this is a good place for them as well. The food was really good and honestly top notch. The staff was super friendly even though English is not their forte and they worked really hard to make sure we were happy. We even had some of the locals come up to us and ask if we're doing good and how we're liking the city. As a few older buildings would be in Europe, the place really doesn't have air conditioning and doesn't have any air movement. So on really hot days as we were, it was a bit stifling after a number of people started piling in. We were super happy we found this place and we left quite pleased."

"If you’re looking for a traditional Swiss meal, you absolutely need to come to this restaurant. The food was so delicious. The service was absolutely incredible. I can’t recommend Hannah enough as a server. She took amazing care of us the whole way through. The schnitzel was so authentic and tasteful. The bone broth soup was to die for definitely do not miss out on that! 10/10 would recommend!"

Restaurants in Luzern and Central Switzerland
Step past the ancient facade and into a room roaring with local action, where brisk waiters deliver the dishes that Mutti (Mom) used to make: fresh Kutteln (tripe) in rich white-wine sauce with cumin seeds; real Kalbs-kopf (chopped fresh veal head) served with heaps of green onions and warm vinaigrette; and authentic Luzerner Kügelipaschtetli (puff-pastry nests filled with finely ground beef, savory herbs, and cream sauce). Occasional experiments in a modern mode—such as steak with wasabi sauce—prove that Peter Galliker's kitchen is no museum. Desserts may include raspberries with peppermint ice cream.

A Guide to Lucerne in Winter
I’m bummed we didn’t have a proper dinner out while in Lucerne (last minute trip = hard to get reservations and coordinate with weather and such) but if we had been able to go out a few spots on my list included the restaurant on Rigi Mountain, Wirtshaus Galliker, a infamous family-owned and operated restaurant that has been around for more than 140 years, and Brasserie Bodu, a cozy bistro-style restaurant.
