Buffet & Bar Riffelberg

Running from 29 June to 14 September, the adventure starts at the mountain-top 3100 Kulmhotel Gornergrat, with a special aperitif, followed by a stop at the Hotel Riffelhaus, on the Riffelberg, with a three-course gourmet menu featuring local cheese, mushrooms and herbs, as well as the typical cured meats. Finish that by 2pm, and then the final course is a pudding with coffee at the Restaurant Alphitta, on the Riffelalp.

As well as the Sunnegga lift station restaurant, the lift stations at Trockener Steg and Riffelberg, offer basic lunches such as gulaschsuppe for relatively modest prices. The lunches on the mountain are a pleasure whether on the Swiss or the Italian side but your wallet will definitely prefer the Italian side. There are lots of restaurants in Zermatt that will serve a decent evening meal without breaking the bank (there is an McDonald’s but it would be a shame not to try some of the Swiss/Italian food on offer in town) and plenty that will be a real treat but with prices to match.

I took a cogwheel train up the mountain🚂, there are five stops in total⬇️ -Findelbach -Riffelalp -Riffelberg -Rotenboden (photo check-in place📷) -Gornergrat (terminal) We went directly to the terminal, and then went to the penultimate station when we went down the mountain by car, and we didn't get off at the other three stations～ ⚠️It is recommended that everyone sit on the right side of the direction of the train when going up the mountain!. You can see the mountain better!. The last two stations have the best scenery🏔️ and are most suitable for taking pictures!.

With a perfect location in the heart of the skiing and walking arena, this family-friendly restaurant is easy to find too.

BUFFET & BAR RIFFELBERG — a self-service food market up in the mountains at Riffelberg. Not exactly something to write home about but if you go tobogganing (and you should) it’s a convenient place to grab a quick lunch to enjoy outside with a marvelous view!

From Rotenboden – Riffelberg, sled down a 10-minute long run taking in the incredible mountain landscape. Repeat as many times as you like by taking the cog train back up to the starting point at Rotenboden.

The Gornergrat Bahn takes skiers and tourists up to the Gornergrat peak via Riffelalp, Rotenboden and Riffelberg, (with limited stops at Findelbach and Landtunnel just above Zermatt.
