Although I did not make it to them this year, I have fond memories of my last year’s visit to this jewel of a mountain hut a bit away from the slopes – you have to take off your skis and walk down the hill through a cluster of houses. Once inside the traditional building – it is a bit cramped and dark –, you feel at ease in the cozy interiors.

Another awesome restaurant located on the slopes is Findlerhof. Similar to Chez Vrony, this place is only open for lunch, and you’ll need a reservation, thanks to its popularity and incredible views. Located about 80 meters walk through a tiny sheep farming town, Findlerhof has a beautiful patio that is styled in the most charming Alpine way – think cozy sheep skin throws, colored textured glassware and striped blankets with the Swiss flag.

A well-known restaurant on the way is Chez Vrony which looked very nice, but we decided to continue a bit more down to Restaurant Findlerhof. The last part to Restaurant Findlerhof is in between the dark brown little chalets until you get to the restaurant with its sun terrace. Remember to reserve in advance, because restaurants with views like this can of course get a bit busy on sunny days!.

There are more than 50 mountainside dining options in the Zermatt area, but there are only a few Michelin rated ones. If you’d like a delicious, fancy and refined atmosphere, go to Chez Vrony. However, if you want a cozy Swiss chalet owned and run by a welcoming husband and wife team, go to Franz and Heidi’s Restaurant Findlerhof in the tiny hamlet of Findeln.

Ski down the blue run from the Sunnegga funicular and you reach Findlerhof (www.findlerhof.ch), which has sublime views of the Matterhorn from its sunny terrace. It’s a bit of a schlep along a winding path, but it’s worth the trek (and also accessible via a long footpath). Savour big plates of lamb shank (38 francs Dh139) or truffle ravioli (42 francs Dh154).

Off the Sunnegga-Findeln blue run, are the sublime Chez Vrony and Findlerhof. The panorama from the terrace at Chez Vrony, looking towards the Matterhorn on a sunny afternoon over a bowl of Vrony's hay soup (less rustic than it sounds) and a glass of good Valais wine (likewise), is a preview of paradise. In town - Ferdinand, at Cervo, is especially buzzy.

If you’re skiing or hiking in Sunnegga and want to switch it up from Chez Vrony, Findlerhof is another fantastic option, just a 7-minute walk further downhill. Recognized by Gault & Millau, Findlerhof offers a cozy, down-to-earth charm compared to Chez Vrony’s chic après-ski atmosphere. On a clear day, you’ll be treated to spectacular Matterhorn views.

Follow the blue piste no. 6 from Sunnegga towards Findeln to reach Findlerhof, where you can discover the “flavour of the mountain”. After parking your skis at the white chapel, you need only walk another 50m down the alley to the restaurant. Its timber exterior and chcolate box style shutters echo the historic mountain huts of yesteryear.

Meanwhile, Findlerhof* is known for its beautiful panoramic terraces, its mountain cheese ravioli, quiches, and its gigantic Matterhorn röstis. Three other nearby establishments are also worth a visit: the **Adler Hitta, with occasional live music, Enzian, and @Paradise* (13 points), which is now run by Vrony’s team.

Findlerhof is a cozy, family-run restaurant tucked in the Swiss Alps in the Findeln area with an incredible view of the Matterhorn. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, making it a perfect spot for lunch after a morning of skiing. Their cheese fondue is a must-try, served with a variety of delicious sides.

Restaurant Findlerhof might be the most picturesque place I have ever eaten, and one of the most delicious. You can only ski in/out or hike in/out of this restaurant but it is worth the effort to get there. They have two lunchtime seatings at noon and two o’clock and people are ready to come eat and drink.

We usually ended up at the one that used to be called Hans and Gerda's and is now (no joke) Franz and Heidi's--or technically, Findlerhof, owned by Franz and Heidi Schwery. The place is hardly marked. You come to a cluster of barns and descend a narrow path on foot, with an old rope for a banister.

Certainly, Gault Millau thought so when it gave Findlerhof 14 points (20 being the highest rating) while Chez Vrony was awarded 13. The most popular dish is the 5-hour braised lamb shank. For those wanting to look sleek in bulky ski pants, they also make healthy but substantial salads with shrimp.

If you are over in the Sunnegga area, Restaurant Findlerhof is on a blue run so everyone can get to it, and the food is incredible!. There’s a lot of locally sourced lamb, with fresh sashimi to start. The cheapest thing on the menu is a quiche, and it’s so delicious I often have it.

You can go hike up to the Hamlet of Zmutt for a secluded village setting with gorgeous views of the Matterhorn on the hike up and/or go to Findlerhof and even get a drink and food!. Both mountain villages are preserved in the rustic nature they were built in the 1800s and 1900s.

Findlerhof is a great mountain restaurant and one of the best in Zermatt. The restaurant is located slightly below Chez Vrony in the Findeln area at 2,050m. The restaurant prides itself on its superb home cooking, with many regional dishes available.

In the same hamlet is the excellent Findlerhof with lovely views from its terraces and a conservatory for bad weather days. Rosti and sweet omelettes are the specialities at Stafelalp. Fluhalp has live music, the best views and yet more great food.

Findlerhof is an amazing restaurant in a really magical place - the atmosphere, the views, the food and the staff make this an unforgettable experience. Most of the food is also local and they have a lot of vegan choices which makes it even better.

Findlerhof: Located just down the mountain from Chez Vrony, this is a great spot to grab a drink during the day or to sit down for a long lunch. The menu is varied, offering everything from soups and salads to pasta and classic dishes like rösti.

The Findlerhof at the top of the Sunnegga Funnicular in the Findeln ski area is also a very good choice. Fabulous food and views to die for of the Matterhorn and probably slips into the top three choices on Zermatt’s mountain restaurant list.

In the hamlet of Findeln you can find the Findlerhof or Franz and Heidi’s (a sensational vegetarian quiche), Chez Vrony (an awesome fish soup) and Heinz Julen’s famous furniture, Enzian, Adler (rotiserie chicken), and Paradies.

Good mountain restaurants include: Findlerhof (in Findeln), Fluhalp (in Rothorn), Blatten (in Furi), Al Bosco (in Gornergrat), Gitz Gädi (in Furi). All are great in the summer as they’re close to playgrounds.

After a thrilling day on the slopes, unwind in one of Zermatt's luxury après-ski spots like the Hennu Stall or enjoy a fine-dining experience at mountain-top restaurants such as Chez Vrony or Findlerhof.
