Swiss Chuchi Restaurant

Right on the Niederdorf's main square, Hirschenplatz, this squeaky-clean Swiss-kitsch restaurant has an airy, modern decor, with Alpine-rustic chairs. It serves good home-cooked national specialties: Zürcher Geschnetzeltes, Rösti, Leberli, bratwurst, schnitzel, and battered fish with French fries and tartar sauce—the gang's all here. An added attraction if you're visiting in summer: fondue and raclette (melted cheese served with small potatoes in their skins, pickled pearl onions, and gherkins), usually winter dishes, are served year-round.

Though a favored spot with tourists, Restaurant Swiss Chuchi’s Swiss fondue, raclette and rösti specialties are agreed to be unbeatable among locals as well. Almost as unbeatable as the restaurant’s location in Niederdorf pedestrian area, part of the Hotel Adler; therefore, it is an ideal venue during a visit to the old city or during a relaxing dinner with some people watching. The name Swiss Chuchi comes from a well-known Swiss German tongue-twister Chuchichäschtli, in which chuchi stands for cuisine.

If you want to sample traditional fondue, Swiss Chuchi Restaurant serves up some of the best fondues in town. Or, for something a little more creative, Walliser Kanne Zürich offers offbeat flavors, including fondue flavored with truffles and fondue flavored with champagne!. However you have it, enjoy your fondue alongside a glass of dry, acidic wine and finish your meal with a shot of cherry brandy for the authentic Swiss experience.

As famous as chocolate is in Switzerland, cheese is just as much a beloved delicacy and you cannot possibly leave the country without trying a cheese fondue at least once. But preferably more than once. Swiss Chuchi is a highly popular place for cheese fondue in Zurich and it just happened to be part of Hotel Adler which is where we were staying in the Old Town.

If fondue is what you’re looking for, we enjoyed our fair share of fondue in Zurich’s historic Old Town at Le Dezaley (le-dezaley.ch) and Restaurant Swiss Chuchi (hotel-adler.ch). At Le Dezaley, we had a great Fleisch fondue. The meats are fried in hot oil at your table and combined with a nice platter of rice and various sauces.

The Swiss Chuchi is famous for traditional Swiss classics such as Fondue and Raclette in many different variations, along with other dishes from various Swiss cantons. The Cheese Fondue is a local favorite here. Specialties include sliced Calf's Liver with herbs, or sliced Veal with mushroom sauce, both served with Rösti.

Most people head to the Swiss Chuchi (Swiss Kitchen in Swiss German) for their cheese fondue. It’s convenient, as it’s right on Niederdorfstrasse in the middle of the old town. However, some locals have recommended the Fribourger Fonduestübli near the Stauffacher tram stop for a true fondue experience.

Swiss Chuchi in Hotel Adler is a cozy spot for indulging in fondue, raclette, and other Alpine favorites like Zürich-style veal and rösti. Must-Try Dish: Adler house special fondue with alpine herbs. How to get there: A 10-minute walk from Zurich HB, or take tram line 4 to"Rathaus.

At the Restaurant Weisses Rössli you feel like at in inn in the countryside. Down-to-earth food and likeable service staff. As the restaurant is located at the bottom of Uetliberg, you can go for a nice walk after lunch or dinner.
