Considered by many to be paradise for seafood lovers, this is actually three restaurants in one. A sushi bar, a hot pot restaurant, and a Korean barbecue offer diners a wide range of choices. Add to that the fact that it’s located in the same building as a fish market, and you have a recipe for one of the finest seafood culinary experiences you can get.

Aquatic Addiction Development (AAD) is quickly becoming a must-see place for seafood-loving foodies. Carved out of the Taiwan Fish Market, this is a brand new and modern type of market that has a little bit for everyone. Near the entrance you have what looks like a wholesale area with tanks filled with fresh catches. From there, you step into the main section of AAD which is a cross between a really up-scale supermarket and sit down sushi and seafood bar.

Street food occupies the low end of the price spectrum, but there's recommendable dining at the very top as well. One stunning example is RAW, a restaurant from Taiwanese chef André Chiang, who gives classic Taiwanese food a bit of the classic French treatment. Taipei is home to some of the world's best sushi restaurants outside of Japan, including RyuGin Taipei, an outpost of a three-Michelin-starred sushi restaurant in Tokyo.

The old Taipei fish market has been converted to an upscale seafood grocery store and collection of seafood restaurants called Addiction Aquatic Development. My kids enjoyed going here to see the aquariums filled with giant king crabs, lobsters, and more. After that, head into the gourmet grocery store to buy super fresh take-away sushi and other more kid-friendly treats, then head to nearby Rongxing Park for a picnic.

To wrap up your 5 days in Taipei, head to Addiction Aquatic Development—a seafood market with some of the best fresh seafood in the city. It completely upgrades the old fish market experience, adding wine bars and best-in-town sashimi. Meanwhile, the ornate Bellavita in the Xinyi district offers an aristocratic afternoon tea spread, decent Italian food, plus an oysters and champagne bar.

Aquatic Addiction Development (AAD), is a large space dedicated to all things seafood. It is a haven for any seafood lover, and should be high on your list of places to visit in Taipei for sure!. The building, covering a huge 2,000 square meters, has been built next to Taipei’s working Fish Market, with the aim of bringing locals, and tourist alike, back to the precinct.

As Eataly is to Italian food, Taipei's Addiction Aquatic Development is to seafood. From live seafood to a series of restaurants, and especially sushi and sashimi—offered in varying pre-packaged to-go selections to a standing-room omakase—this is a heaven for fish and shellfish fans (the bulging containers of fresh uni at affordable prices alone will have some drooling).

This fish market is one of the must visit places in Taipei if you want to have the freshest seafood or you are into Japanese food. They have a Japanese Sushi bar where you need to stand and eat. It is a very popular place so when you arrive – go straight to the Sushi bar and take a number first – it was a rainy day when we went so we didn’t need to queue very long.

Addiction Aquatic Development is one of our favorite places in Taipei. It’s a unique concept that’s basically an upscale live seafood market, gourmet food supermarket, seafood bar, sushi bar, oyster bar, seafood barbecue restaurant, and hot pot restaurant all rolled into an uber stylish space. Like creative parks, it’s one of those places that defies description.

Taiwan resembles Japan in many aspects, but Addiction Aquatic Taipei has got to be the spawn of Tokyo’s Tsukiji Market itself — but with slightly less high quality products. :) Nevertheless, I still enjoyed our standing sushi meal (where you literally stand up to eat your meal) and I highly recommend coming here for a nice night out in Taipei!
