Reviews Summary

Din Tai Fung is celebrated for its legendary xiao long bao and a wide array of well-prepared dumplings and Taiwanese dishes. While many praise the attentive service and efficient ordering, the consistently long wait times are a common drawback. Some diners note a slight dip in quality as the chain expands, but for most, the experience remains highly enjoyable and worth the anticipation.

"Food and service are both very good. Just the line is really too long and we waited for more than 2 hours. It's better to come early to take the number first and go back to save some time."

Siyu Peng

"There is always a long line at Din Tai Fung because they don’t accept reservations. There are two of us arrived at 5:15pm. We were seated about 20 minutes later even though it said the wait is 30 - 50 minutes. If you are a vegan or vegetarian, ask for the vegetarian/vegan menu. There are not a lot of vegan/vegetarian options but plenty to satisfy. The menu is clearly labeled and the servers are very helpful if you have any questions. Place the order with a QR code. The servers keep your tea cup filled and clear the empty plates quickly. It only took about 35 minutes for us to finish our meal. Food comes out fast. Go early or later to avoid long wait time."

Diana Hsu

"Not as good as I remembered them. Food quality seems have gone down as they massively expand globally and within Taiwan. When I ordered both crab meat filled and melon shrimp, I expected they bring out the melon shrimp first because the crab mean has heavier taste. Like in sushi, you want to be served with light white fish before the bloody tuna and sea urchin. The service has gone down a bit too. As before they would take the time to explain and even mix the sauce for you. You can feel they are into efficiency vs. quality of service. The atmosphere feels a bit rush as they again trying to be efficient. It feels more like fast foods chain now. Maybe it just this store? Too much focus on KPI. Nothing to see here, moving on."

Taiwan’s Top 10 Soup Dumplings|Culture|2018-12-06|web only

When it comes to getting xiao long bao (soup dumplings) in Taiwan, Din Tai Fung (awarded one Michelin star by the 2010 Hong Kong and Macau Michelin Guide) is usually the first place that comes to mind. It should come as no surprise that not only does it top our list of best soup dumplings spots in Taiwan, but also that many of the other restaurants on the list will have their dumplings compared to those found here. One of the most popular Din Tai Fung branches among travelers is on the basement floor of the iconic Taipei 101, which boasts a large window separating diners from the kitchen, through which diners can watch a team of a dozen chefs as they go through the 18 delicate motions it takes to make each dumpling.

Tried this knife cut beef noodle shop for the first time today (there are two on Yong Kang, this one is in an adjacent alley.
