What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Travellers Cafe offers a prime beachfront location with beautiful ocean views, making it a popular spot for sunset drinks and casual meals. While some guests praise the local dishes and relaxed atmosphere, a recurring theme in reviews points to significant issues with staff attitude and service quality, which can overshadow the appealing setting. Food quality can be inconsistent, with some dishes being hits and others misses.
"We have been here every evening while we stayed in Stone Town. It is a perfect place to enjoy sunset beer. Friendly service."
Elise
"I had a cheese & tomato sandwich and a banana shake. The sandwich was so dry, there was nothing on it except tomato and cheese, no spread/mayo/pesto. There is a large dining area, all outdoors, and partially covered. The waitress seemed very disinterested, and then tried to say the credit card machine might not work. If you have that problem you should say you are a cash only establishment. Overall it was very disappointing; the only good thing here is that you're beachfront, but there are plenty of other places that are beachfront as well."
Heather S.
"A bar perched on the beach with easy access and a beautiful view, even in a bit of cloudy weather. Drinks were good, the only thing that had me trying to get out fast was other patrons. Unfortunately it's very much an expats bar and sometimes you wonder if they volunteered or were asked to leave. Someone smoking a bad cigarette and playing music on their phone like it was their private patio quickly ruined the experience."

Restaurants in Zanzibar
Locals and expats in the know have this as their go-to stop for a good, hearty meal with a cold beer and a charming atmosphere undisturbed by the tourist trail. Expect a full plate---burgers, grilled chicken, and chips---and a good beer at a decent price with an unassuming local atmosphere; this is not the place for cocktails and wine. This is where you untuck, kick back, have an icy cold beer (or two) and watch the Zanzibar beach life go by while chatting to friends.

Amazingly, considering that everything else seems to be more expensive in Zanzibar, there are free hotspots in Stone Town, at least in the Forodhani Garden, Mercurys bar, Travellers Cafe, Tatu Bar.. (tip: check where all the locals are sitting and staring at their smartphones).
