This is stop 2 of 4 on my khao soi tour through Chiang Mai, Thailand. Khoi Soi Kaat Gorm (on Google Maps as “Khao Soi Lung Prakit Kad Kom”) was made extra famous by Somebody Feed Phil when he praises the shop in his Netflix series. It’s a great shop, very busy, with a proud owner (Lung Prakit!) that serves one dish only: khao soi. All around very good, an improvement from Khao-Soi-I in my opinion,...

Reviews Summary

Khao Soi Lung Prakit Kad Kom is widely praised for its exceptionally flavorful and authentic Khao Soi, particularly the beef version, often cited as among the best in Chiang Mai. Diners appreciate the rich broth, tender meats, and affordable prices, contributing to its legendary status. However, some find the restaurant's ambiance to be basic and the dish quite spicy, while a few mention issues with service or perceived blandness.

"You know a place is fire when they only have one dish on the menu. This restaurant has Khao Soi with chicken, beef or both. I went with both for only 80 baht. Insane value and the flavour and spices hit you like a truck. Rich, delicious, spicy broth with a hint of coconut cream embedded within the intense, meaty curry. Lime juice adds a touch of acidity to complement the richness and a generous plate of pickled vegetables are presented alongside your dish. Well deserving of its Michelin status and I will definitely be back again."

"Khao Soi Lung Prakit, is one of the most popular khao soi restaurant in Chiang Mai.

The place has failed to live up to its hype for me though. Here's 2 main reason why the place gets a solid 2/5 stars:

1. Although Uncle Prakit was present there. But perhaps due to his old age, not sure whether its his son or his niece does all the cookery and controls all the ingredients. He just sits inside..excluded from the cookery scene.

Apparently, for my personal opinion. The gentleman is quite rude in speaking to customer. One word answer. A bit of a ganster style in term of interacting. Like he couldnt careless is you gonna dine or not, coz theres gonna be tremendous of people flooded to his store daily anyhow.

2. Khao Soi taste itself is quite bland. As a local, I experience a better Khao Soi here. Nothing spectacular that makes me 'wow" ...from the noodle itself to the broth.

The price is still friendly. Be prepare to wait in long queues if you came after 9.45am.

Food hygiene is also another considerable factor. The restaurant is vintage itself. Sadly, ruined interm of "hospitality" and "careness"."

"Dining Experience @ Khao Soi Lung Prakit Kad Kom.
.
Ambience is the epitome of humble street side stall. Duck under the faded awning to see dimly lit rows of low plastic stools and communal metal tables, where students, labourers, office workers, families, and tourists dine in close and noisy proximity. The walls are splashed with oil stains, yellowed news clippings, and small photos of celebrities who have dined here. Oscillating fans hum overhead, cutting through the humidity and carrying the scent of simmering curry across the alley.
.
Service is incredibly efficient amidst the chaos. The moment you sit, a staff (often a relative of Uncle Prakit, his children, or long-tenured helpers) takes your order. Conversations are brisk, punctuated by pointing or laughter, and steaming bowls of curry egg noodles and side plates of vegetables arrive quickly. Water and other drinks are self-service from the nearby chiller. Staff clean up quickly too, turning around tables for the patiently waiting customers queuing outside.
.
Food is traditional Northern Thai cuisine, focused on curry egg noodles. This is the highlight, and the reason they're famous, as each piping hot bowl entices with its fragrant aroma of spices and the visually-appealing arrangement. Every spoonful delivers the delicious payoff, a gorgeously balanced curry, which locals swear they can eat daily. Portions are large and generous. Prices remain affordable, budget about THB ฿80 / SGD $3 per person."

Crispy, deep-fried noodles atop melt-in-the-mouth beef tenderloin and a flavourful broth. This place is known as the place to sample Thailand’s renowned khao soi, and for very good reason. Where to Eat in Chiang Mai

Previously known to us only as “the khao soi place”, we’ve been frequenting this joint for over two years – long before Netflix’s ‘Better Feed Phil’ discovered it – but arguably it does the best khao soi in Chiang Mai. A bold statement I know, but I could live on this northern Thailand speciality three meals a day if it wasn’t for the fact that it is full of coconut milk and therefore pretty fattening, meaning I’ve tried more than a few bowls in my time and therefore can speak with authority!. The joint is a little grubby around the edges, plus there are several chickens always running around (presumably tomorrow’s lunch?) but don’t let that put you off, the khao soi is truly delicious.

Lung Prakit first came to our attention way before we left London, as we were watching the brilliant foodie show Somebody Feed Phil. After trying for ourselves, we can definitely see why he recommended Lung Prakit so highly.
