Why we love it: House by Ginger has been impressing locals and visitors ever since it opened with a mix of vibrant decor, laid-back atmospheres and seriously satisfying food. The menu straddles the traditional and the contemporary, pairing up typical servings of pomelo salad, tom kha gai and cashew chicken alongside tender beef curries, delicately grilled meats and an appetiser menu of tacos, cheese and spring rolls.

Trendy locals have been loving this iconic restaurant that serves creative Thai and pan-Asian fare since it opened in 2004. The walls are adorned with tropical motif wallpaper, the plush furniture is finished with dark velvets, and traditional Chinese pottery in bold colors sits on display. The banquette seating is topped with colorful throw pillows that you can purchase in the shop.

Open for decades on the edge of the old city, this stylish, quirky spot serves authentic Northern Thai classics like Khao Soi and Nam Prik Ong with a twist. For nearly two decades, The House by Ginger has been serving customers from an old colonial mansion house that dates back to 1937. The venue comprises a candlelit restaurant, a cocktail bar with comfy sofas and two private dining rooms and is found in the old city. It caters to traditional Thai fare, with artisanal beverages.

The House by Ginger, located in the Old Town, is one of the best places to eat in Chiang Mai if you’re a traveler without a tight budget. My friend and I came here after a full day of scooter adventures, and we were starving. We found it by accident after being turned away from Baan Landai (below) without a reservation.

If you are worried with your weak stomach (jkjk) about eating a hut style restaurant not digging a hut style restaurant try House by Ginger (before 2022, it was called Ginger and Kafe). It is a very trendy restaurant with good food. I had another Khao Soi here, and it was as good as Khao Soi Khun Yai.
