A Malaysian foodie highlight in Thailand! Today we experienced Teh Tarik on a foodie tour in Phuket. We stopped off at Aroon Po Chana on the Thalang Road. This tea is also known as pulled tea or Cha Chak. I really hate tea but Paul is a tea lover, so we were interested to see whether we would like it. The verdict, both gave it an 8/10! But a 10/10 for drama. Paul was offered to have a go at the p...

Reviews Summary

Aroon Po Chana is celebrated for its authentic Malay-influenced Thai cuisine, with many praising the crispy roti and flavorful curries, reminiscent of Malaysian flavors. While the value is exceptional and the atmosphere is cozy, some reviews mention that certain dishes can be underwhelming, with one diner finding the beef curry to have a scant amount of beef.

"We were craving for some good roti in Phuket and we ended up going to this place without any idea. All I can say is OMG ! We end up eating like crazy. What a great place this is. Brought back all the flavours I had in Malaysia. Truly amazing roti and curries to go with. Also try their tea."

Niroshan Mirando

"The food was very mid, maybe white people like it because they don’t know different flavours and they eat at mostly touristy places. I saw a lot of tour guides here with people so hence the review. The beef curry was pathetic because one tiny small piece of beef. I have had this dish here and it’s really good elsewhere
But definitely the drinks were unique"

Shazra Khalid

"Amazing value and incredible food. As a massaman lover, I can certify that this places lives up to the hype. Crispy roti, and extremely well balanced and flavorful curry. Not loaded with cream like other massamans that cater towards tourists. Honestly one of the best I’ve ever had. 100% recommended to anyone."

Phuket Old Town- 16 best places to eat and drink ( Updated July 2025)

Your food tour of Phuket Old Town has to include their iconic ‘roti’ joints. Run by Indian Muslim families for the last 60 years that originated from Southern India, their version of roti is more savoury and closer to the original Indian ‘parotha’ rather than the thinner, crispier tourist staple which is drenched in nutella or layered with bananas. My go to roti joint is Aroon Po Chana on Thalang Road.
