An old yellow house is not outstanding, but visitors are willing to queue in order to taste local cuisines at this restaurant. With a pack of flavors in every menu and reasonable prices, this restaurant has been with Phuket residents for more than 30 years and has been awarded Bib Gourmand Michelin Guide for 3 years consecutively.

Right from the moment you walk through the door of little wooden shophouse in Phuket Town, the intoxicating aromas of Hong Khao Tom Pla will have your mouth watering in anticipation of the flavours to come. With the owner himself acting as the solo chef, you know you’re in for an authentic dining experience like no other. You must try their signature fish porridge (which is what the restaurant was named after), as well as their wok-fried crab.

Raya is one of the most famous Thai restaurants in Phuket Town, and whilst it is one the fancier end of the spectrum for street food, their moo hong pork belly stew is definitely a must-try. Set in a renovated Sino-Thai mansion, there’s a romantic ambience here too, and you’ll often find local celebrities and stars amongst the clientele. A great place to start and check-in to the street food scene.

The symphony of sizzling wok-cooked dishes harmonizes with the ambiance, creating an immersive experience. The menu boasts an array of delectable offerings such as Seafood Curry, Fried Fish with Vegetables, and Spicy Soups.

A Southern Thai sour soup with sea bass that has been seasoned with tamarind, Pla Tom Som had a rich flavour. I sampled it at Yai Yai Kitchen, and I loved the flavour of the broth and velvety texture of the sea bass.

Hong Khao Tom Pla (ฮ้องข้าวต้มปลา) – My wife Ying told me we needed to check out this restaurant knowing it was going to be a place I was going to love.
