"Very authentic Burmese cuisine and the staff is super friendly, and speak good English.

Will be back shortly for more!"

"Good naan, fun to watch the baking process. Milk tea is good, very aromatic and very sweet (with condensed milk)"

"This place deserves all the business but I also don’t want it to be tainted by tourists. The food is incredible. Coming to Phuket and not getting Burmese food is like going to San Diego and not getting Mexican food. You have to. The Nan byar was so light and tender, amazing with the lamb curry they serve it with. And the Mohinga soup is the perfect way to start your day. A citrusy lemongrassy bowl of deliciousness. Also get the hot tea! Best I’ve had in Thailand."

This hidden little teashop , tucked away behind the market is another breakfast only joint that serves the local Burmese working community who form a sizeable minority here. Here, you can savour Burmese style chicken curry, crispy samosas accompanied by naan freshly prepared in their wood-fired tandoor which can be washed down with some sweet tea. Located behind the Central Markets, this busy little eatery seems to have it all worked out. The first thing I noticed upon entering is a tandoor-style oven at the entrance and a huge slab of dough on the table. There’s a guy making fresh naan to order for the non-stop succession of hungry diners and delivery drivers stopping by to sit and eat here in or pick up and take away.
One Week in Phuket, 1st Part: Phuket Old Town, 5-7 February
Located behind the market, this busy spot features a clay oven where they slap the dough to the inside of the tandoor to cook the bubbly naan. This is Burmese cuisine, where the naan is served with mildly spicy dahl and rather bland samosas. Oh, and raw veggies, including garlic cloves that you peel yourself and nibble throughout.

A Chef’s Tour - Phuket Old Town
After pancakes, we headed back towards the market and walked around the busy shop lined back streets to “Little Myanmar” - A collection of Burmese shops and restaurants clustered together in Phuket Old Town. We’ve always wanted to visit Myanmar, so we were very excited to have the opportunity to try the food.
Eating Our Way Through Phuket, Thailand
Our first stop was a Myanmar/Burmese coffee shop, called Mingalar Coffee Shop. They served delicious breakfast specialties including naan bread, samosas, lamb, curry, and fried things that looked like churros. This is what I love about taking tours.
