What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Herd Steak Restaurant is lauded for its exceptional, perfectly cooked steaks sourced from high-quality local beef. Diners rave about the tender cuts, delicious sides, and a cozy, atmospheric basement setting. While most experiences are overwhelmingly positive, a few reviews mention steaks being overcooked, though the management is noted for addressing such issues gracefully. The friendly and attentive service, particularly from staff members like Karl and Josh, is a consistent highlight.
"For a nice dinner in Bath, this restaurant was on point! We ordered two Legendary platters and they were absolutely perfect. Steaks are dry aged and were cooked to perfection. Side and sauces were plentiful and delicious. For the most delectable steak in Bath, check out the Herd!"
Patricia Brown
"Unfortunately this was disappointing, we ordered our steak medium rare but they came out very overcooked. The manager was great and very understanding and took 30% off the bill because of the error which we appreciated. The starter and sides were ok. The wait staff were very friendly and helpful. The Herd represents very good value for money for the area and what you get. The atmosphere is lovely too."

"We absolutely loved our meal at The Herd Restaurant. The staff were friendly, the atmosphere was lovely, and the food was amazing. The steak was cooked to perfection and the peppercorn sauce was gorgeous. We thought it was good value for money. We highly recommend!"

10 Best Steak Restaurants in Bath in 2024
Follow the herd, and mind your horns, as you head down from a fairly unassuming door on Argyle Street and walk down into the white-walled interior of the Herd Steak Restaurant by Pulteney Bridge (there is also a more accessible entrance from Spring Gardens if needed). Butcher block tables and candles give the bright basement space a cosy feel that’s ideal for date night or dinner with friends. The Herd is run by Timothy Coffey and Francesca Addabbo, who have honed their offerings after first opening up The Real Italian Pizza Company and then realising there was a demand for authentic traditional Italian ristorante in Bath, so they opened Joya (number four on our list!).

Steak is often a firm family favourite and few places do it better than the Herd. The restaurant uses only the best quality free range locally reared beef – from a herd of Aberdeen Angus and Hereford crosses reared in Coulston, between Devizes and Trowbridge to be exact. The Herd’s butchers mature the meat for between 21 and 28 days until it is at its very best so if you want a meat feast, this is the place to do it.
