Reviews Summary

Diners frequently praise The Coconut Tree for its vibrant and authentic Sri Lankan flavors, exceptional value, and friendly service. Many highlight the unique dishes and the appealing atmosphere, making it a recommended spot for a delightful meal. However, some reviews mention that certain dishes can be very spicy, and a few guests noted that portion sizes might be smaller than expected for the price, with occasional comments on food temperature or freshness.

"Visited Thursday, 20th March 2025

We have been before, so we obviously enjoyed our previous visit.

Lovely food, so many different flavours, unique to each dish - food Sri Lankan.

We kept a list of what we had at our last visit, which was lucky as the menu had been updated.

They recommend about 2-3 small plates per person ...... but we don't mind taking home leftovers, and this was a birthday treat.

So, with a combination of old tried and tested and a few new additions, we chose 10!

They all arrived together, and the feast began, with two raspberry/mint soft drinks to compliment the meal.

We loved it, the service was good.
My only slight constructive comment was that I enjoy food when it's really hot (temperature, not spice heat), and it was a little cool for me, but I still enjoyed it!

We will be back ...... soon!

Big thanks to you & your team! 🌞"

"I visited Coconut Tree in Bristol last month for lunch. We ordered two shrimp fried rice dishes and shrimp curries. The food didn’t taste fresh, and the rice was sticky. I’ve attached pictures below. The portion sizes were really small for the price, one portion wasn’t enough for one person. Additionally, the girl who served us was unpleasant and rude when we informed her of the issue. For those expecting good Sri Lankan food, I can’t recommend this place at all."

Viraj Iddamalgoda

"A small group (5) had dinner. We had to try a variety of options as the portions are super small. The goat curry was watery and lacked spice. The service staff were kind, helpful and a bit chaotic. Whilst I enjoyed some of the food, did not think its was value for money."

14 best restaurants in Bristol to visit this year

There’s something so innocently and unpretentiously fun about The Coconut Tree that you can’t help but love it. Plus, when the cost of literally staying alive, let alone dining out, is higher than ever, a menu where plates start at £4 (lamb cutlets, hoppers and sambol) and go up to a maximum of a tenner (beef brisket kothu and prawn fried rice) is very, very welcome. Offering up authentic Sri Lankan flavours in small ceramic dishes designed to be shared, there are tons of bold, spicy and vibrant things to choose from.

The Best Gluten Free Restaurants In Bristol

With six locations across the country, including two in Bristol, The Coconut Tree is an expanding empire that’s bringing the taste of Sri Lanka to the UK. The invitation to The Coconut Tree lies in the combination of rich colour and bold white lettering on every storefront. It’s simple but trendy, softened up by the addition of a friendly, little palm tree in the logo and most sites seem to incorporate tuk-tuks into the decor which adds an element of fun.

The delicious food served here is Caribbean and scrumptious. The menu has GF and GFO (i.e. gluten-free options) and you won't have to have a separate menu (or worse, the dreaded folder) to find out what's safe for you. You can visit either Clifton or Gloucester Road.
