Off the beaten tracks you’ll find many hidden gems, set back from the hustle & bustle of the tourist areas and a few to mention are Buxton Brewery House, located on the edge of town, hidden at the end of the industrial estate but with lovely rural views from the beer garden. The brewery makes upwards of 30 distinct brews of all kinds and has many other special editions. Throughout summer they host pop-up restaurants and street food traders all offering a wide variety of food, all at reasonable prices.

I walked around the corner and came to the Buxton Brewery tap, 53@Buxton Tap House. I walked in, and as my eyes were adjusting from the bright sunshine to the dimmer light inside my good mood was punctured by a rather rude lady. "Can I help? "Yes, I just want a pint". "Well, we're very busy, these people have just come in", gesturing vaguely to a group being served at the bar. "I'm in no rush". "Well, we have no spare seats". "I'm OK, I'll stand". "Well, can I get past then?.

Down a side street off the main road, the Buxton Brewery Tap House (George St) is housed within the Old Court House and dates back to the mid-1800s. Considering that Buxton is a sleepy provincial market town, this pub is the hub of the town’s nightlife, staying open until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays. With over 18 beers on draft to choose from including home-brewed pale ale, Buxton SPA, there’s plenty to satisfy the taste buds of any would-be cask connoisseur.

I remembered visiting the Buxton Brewery Tap House on my Hotpotting visit to Buxton so was keen to visit again today. I remembered Gatekeeper as my favourite beer from my recent visit to Harrogate, so I had no hesitation in ordering that here. This can list looked incredibly alluring (especially the pancake stacks) but there was no way I was asking about their imperial stouts on a pub crawl…

The Tap House - which serves a comprehensive selection of Buxton Brewery product - has six nights of live music featuring some of the best bands in the region. The Cheshire Cheese welcomes back the close harmony quartet Close Enough - which left Buxton with such lovely memories last year. Also at The Cheese is The Occasional Band with a selection of Irish jigs, reels, slides and songs.

Buxton Brewery is creating a brand new Garden Tap at their brewery in Spring 2024 which will serve great food, fresh Buxton beers, and coffee seven days a week!. The new Taproom at The Brewery on Staden Lane will be both dog and family-friendly with an outside area for kids to play safely.

For a more relaxed vibe, check out another one of our favourites, the Buxton Tap House, located in the historic Old Court House on George Street. Its extensive bar menu is complemented by a wide range of beers brewed on the premises by the Buxton Brewery. There are also regular open mic spots for local comedians and musicians.

Buxton Brewery’s Tap House and Cellar Bar both feature in the CAMRA guide. The Cellar Bar has “four cask beers from the brewery, served from hand pumps on the bar” - and the Tap House offers another four pumps with a regularly changing range from the brewery’s selection.

If you’re into your craft ales, check out the Buxton Brewery Tap House. This dog-friendly bar usually has 18 brews on draft and 16 on keg, plus a great selection of bottles. Many of the locally-produced brews will knock your socks off as they are at least 6% ABV!

This has housed noted bar 53 Degrees North – which formerly had its own premises – since July, and the merger is working a treat. Expect quality drinks and the indulgent likes of shin beef goulash and tartiflette in the homely surrounds of the Old Court House.

A brief stroll takes me to Buxton Brewery Tap House and Buxton Brewery Cellar. Two separate bars here with the Tap House being open today. This bar is highly sought after, particularly by families looking to dine, as the aroma of the food is delightful.
