The Foundry Brewpub

Canterbury’s brewpub pumps out award-winning craft beers in the industrial setting of a former foundry where New York's first streetlights were made. It also stocks a wide range of local and national ales and ciders, serves light snacks and meals and is planning its own gin and vodka.

The Foundry is a unique craft brewery, Distillery, restaurant and bar located at 77 Stour Street. Their beers and their spirits are handcrafted from English Barley making the Foundry very rare in that they don’t buy their alcohol from suppliers, it is all made from scratch on site. This means you are guaranteed to have drinks made with top quality natural ingredients handpicked by Brewer, Distiller and co-owner Jon Mills.It’s the winner of multiple awards, including Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice 2020, Restaurant Guru ‘Best Pub & Bar’ 2020 Recommended and Ratebeer’s ‘Best place for beer in Kent’.

Like the guys at Floc, Jon has been inspired by the experiences of taprooms and brew pubs in the United States, where the craft beer revolution began back in the second half of the last century. He is not particularly keen on debating the ins and outs of how we label certain beers or breweries, but thinks that here in Kent we should be celebrating every facet of our centuries-long brewing history as one big success story.

One of the best things about Kent – often referred to as the Garden of England – is that you can get great produce for bargain prices. Even better is that this focus on local provenance translates into the region’s restaurant scene. One of the UK’s most historic cities, Canterbury, has a number of thriving eateries that make use of locally-sourced ingredients where you can eat well at low cost.

Brewery & Distillery Tour and Tasting – Multi award winning Canterbury Brewers & Distillers will show you their craft process of handmade grain to glass Beers and spirits. You will be able to taste a selection of their unique beers and spirits and will let in on the secrets of how they were made and named. Many involve the amazing history of the Victorian Foundry building they call home!.

This is a great opportunity to see the brewery and distillery that’s run by an independent family business. Foundry makes beer, whisky, rum and gin, including flavoured gins, such as Blackcurrant & Honey Gin or Herb Garden Gin. If you can’t make the tour times (it’s just one tour a week on Saturday afternoon), you can also visit the Foundry Brewpub any time.

Green Hop Week from 28th Sept to 12th Oct celebrates the very limited-edition beers that Kent’s brewers, such as the city's brewery The Foundry, produce using fresh hops at this crucial time of year with a public beer festival and special tourist trails around the city. While the selection of tipples and drinks were all incredibly tempting, I wouldn't have been able to do too much with my limited budget, no matter how much they were calling my name. This would be a brilliant one to visit if you’ve got any upcoming birthdays or celebrations you need to grab some gifts for.

The Foundry is unique craft brewery, restaurant and bar situated in Canterbury. Located within an industrial building, an original Victorian Foundry was converted into this pub. While there, do check out the production of their fine cask ales at the in-house display microbrewery.

I’m Jon, the Co-Founder and Head Brewer & Distiller at the Foundry Brewpub. We brew on site 16+ beers and ciders. We also distil 6 gins, a vodka, a moonshine, and all of these are made on site from English barley using a grain to glass method.

Had a really nice Sunday roast, which included a really good gluten free option including Gf Yorkshire pudding. The 1/3 pint sampling tray of 5 drinks was also good, allowed you to sample several different beers!
