And indeed Dover’s eating-out scene also holds surprises, from two Marco Pierre White seafront restaurants and firmly established local favourites like Cullin’s Yard and Aspendos to a new branch of Folkestone’s acclaimed Thong Dee’s Thai, new artisan coffee shops Market Square Kitchen and Café Melange, as well as outstanding Nepalese dining room Momohub, whose dumplings – fried, steamed or ‘jhol’ (in gravy) – are among the finest plates I’ve eaten this year.

Located in an old converted ship yard in Dover marina, this restaurant is full of history with "some of the original ‘Cullins Yard’ fixtures, World War memorabilia and some fascinating sculptures". Catering for all tastes, they serve quality fresh food, have an extensive wine list, a great selection of continental lagers and ales as well as their own beer which is brewed on site. The meals are cooked to order using the freshest ingredients supplied daily by their butchers and fishmongers and they have a variety of meals suitable for vegetarians and vegans, including gluten free choices.
