Reviews Summary

David Bann Restaurant is highly praised for its innovative and flavorful vegetarian and vegan cuisine, with many highlighting the creative dishes and impressive presentation. The atmosphere and attentive service also receive consistent accolades. While most diners rave about the food, a few have found certain dishes to be overpriced or lacking in depth of flavor, though desserts are universally lauded.

"We had an amazing experience here. My sister is vegetarian and I wanted to give her a fine dining experience with vegetarian cuisine and this place delivered! The service was fast and very friendly. The food was fresh, delicious, and so great for the value! Also plenty of gluten free options for those with an intolerance like myself!"

Emma Zglinicki

"Woah ! This restaurant is a wonderful experience. All was good ! The starter was a mushroom infusion and it was an explosion of flavour ! Then we took the plate and we aren’t on it, all was perfectly cooked ! To end this experience we took some dessert and again WOAH ! The home made ice cream is just crazy.
So to resume if you want to have a good moment and eat very well you’re on the right place !
PS : I want to mention that the waitress was excellent, they are really kind and they know exactly what they served."

Ejanu

"Definitely felt like the food was overpriced for what they served. The quality of ingredients was fresh and good but the flavors weren’t great. I was expecting a lot more and was disappointed with the blend of dishes - there’s potential for more. Between six appetizers and entrees we ordered, the risotto was the one decent dish. The desserts were phenomenal and highly recommend those. Plating for all dishes were amazing and so was the service/ambience."

The best fine dining restaurants in Edinburgh - Restaurants

But it's only a vegetarian sort of bistro,' carp the purists, 'it's got tofu noodles as a main course, it can't be that good.' David Bann took vegetarian cooking by the scruff of the neck in Edinburgh some years ago and remains peerless in the craft and inventiveness he brings to his eclectic range of meat-free dishes. Yes the venue looks like a swish, modern bistro and maybe there isn't a Master of Wine sommelier advising you over your choice by the glass but the cooking is as good as this genre gets in Scotland. Three courses might bring olive polenta with roast vegetables and goat cheese curd to start; chilli pancake with grilled sweet potato, courgette and chocolate sauce as a main; apple, cinnamon and calvados tart for dessert; bottle of biodynamic Austrian pinot noir to wash it all down.

This attractive restaurant with its serenely zen-like look is not good-in-spite-of-being-vegetarian; it’s just plain good. The menu encompasses a world of different cuisines, from Thai fritters to Moroccan black-eyed bean stew, all fresh, light and bright tasting. The same menu is served from midday until late and though options may not change much from season to season or year to year, this is a reassuringly consistent restaurant.
