Reviews Summary

Hawksmoor Edinburgh is celebrated for its exceptional steaks and the stunning ambiance of its historic bank building setting. Diners rave about the quality of the meat, the perfectly cooked Sunday roast, and the attentive service. While most experiences are overwhelmingly positive, some reviews mention occasional inconsistencies in steak preparation or issues with table spacing.

"We had a wonderful waitress who has a dog called Bailey. She was super fun attentive and put up with all our nonsense.

The food was yum. Totally recommend the beef with onion gravy Yorkshire pudding. Followed by an amazing rib eye steak.

Cocktails were had beer was drunk and cornflakes were eaten (work that one out)

Totally recommend this steak house."

Stuart Lawrence-Taylor

"Tuck in the old National Bank of Scotland building is steakhouse, Hawksmoor. The building is impressive and grand. Walking through the heavy oak entrance doors reminded me of speakeasy entrances.

Through the doors it opened to high ceilings with etched glass windows and walls with beveled glass panels. Very grand, indeed.

The banking hall is converted into the dining area for Hawksmoor, with a huge long bar running the length of the hall. The atmosphere was very hip and happening. Lots of people at the bar and dining area.

This place is known for their beef. The menu is centred around grass fed beef with a few token seafood and chicken selections.

Scallops were cooked on the shells. It was sweet and delicate with a coating of breadcrumbs which complemented the flavour very well.

Pork ribs were actually pork belly with the soft bones. The 1cm slices were marinated well with some Chinese flavours. Cooked and layered with the sauce for a glossy finish. Very tasty.

Grilled chicken was super tender. The double breast were seasoned well and cooked just right. Not dried out at all. The portion was huge.

Looking around the tables, I spotted Wellingtons, burgers. This is a beef eaters restaurant!

Recommended for the quality and quantity of servings."

"Hawksmoor Edinburgh’s Sunday lunch is simply outstanding and represents fantastic value. The roast beef is served in generous portions, beautifully cooked, and packed with flavour, accompanied by perfectly crisp roast potatoes, rich seasonal vegetables, and a deeply satisfying gravy.

The Yorkshire puddings are enormous and gloriously light in the middle, ideal for mopping up every drop of sauce. Add to that the welcoming, attentive service and the elegant setting in the old Royal Bank of Scotland hall, and you have one of the most memorable Sunday dining experiences in the city."

The restaurant staff may be accommodating of special requests not listed on the menu. It's worth asking!

For a quieter dining experience, consider booking an early table when they reopen for dinner at 5 PM.

While primarily a steakhouse, they offer some seafood and other classic British dishes. Some reviews mention a vegan Wellington.

You may have heard of the brand from its locations across the UK (and even New York), because Hawksmoor is an institution for the best meat around. With Edinburgh being so close to incredible Scottish produce, you know the steaks served here will be of the highest quality. Fillet, sirloin, rib-eye, chateaubriand, porterhouse, T-bone… You’ll get given a whole list of tender, melt-in-the-mouth cuts to choose from, all served inside the stunning Grade A listed ‘building of national importance’, formerly known as the National Bank of Scotland Banking Hall.

Best Restaurants In Edinburgh Scotland 2025

Bottomless jugs of thick, varnish-like bone marrow gravy, huge fluffy yorkies and a molassey sticky toffee pudding served with clotted cream – that’s what Sunday roast dreams are made of, and probably why this Scottish outpost serves up to 180 of them every week. Founders Will Beckett and Huw Gott say Sunday roasts are really about two things: memories and produce. “We have so many memories of meals with people we love dating right back to our childhood, and Sunday roasts were always a special occasion at our homes.

Top Best Seafood Restaurants in Powmill

A post shared by Edinburgh Food Porn & Reviews (@plateexpectations) on Jul 7, 2017 at 3:45am PDT. Part of a chain of three restaurants dotted across Edinburgh, Maki and Ramen offers soothing bowls of broth with braised bean curd (or try the ‘Hell Ramen’ if you dare!) and then plenty of fresh sushi to have on the side or as an additional course. This is probably the best sushi restaurant on this list for vegetarians, too, thanks to its thoughtful and delectable vegetarian set dishes.

22 best bars in Edinburgh, according to our Scotland expert

Chain restaurant bars aren’t for everyone, but they’re not all made equal and what Hawksmoor might lack in independent spirit, it more than makes up for in expertise. You see, there’s a certain standard to be met here, and the team rarely misses the mark thanks to an eagerness to offer consistency. There are classics and the brand’s own serves, as well as all the usual wine and beer suspects, so it’s perfect for groups with varying libation interests.

The same quality of steaks that you always get with Hawksmoor, in a fabulous space in a great building” – feedback that suggests no dip in quality for this outpost of the well-known steakhouse chain (which most recently opened in Chicago). As with its London siblings, though, its middling ratings are a result of high prices and a slight sense of “hype”. Also “it’s a very big and striking room, but can easily feel a bit empty”.

Where To Eat In Edinburgh

A good steak, cooked well, can be deceptively difficult to find in Edinburgh. There are a lot of pubs serving subpar cuts of gristly meat alongside dubious-looking salads but when it comes to blushing rumps that make you, er, blush, the city is lacking. Thankfully, the Hawkwsmoor exists to remedy that steak drought.
