The dog-friendly atmosphere and friendly staff are frequently highlighted as major positives, contributing to a relaxing and memorable stay. "Another amazing stay here. Had a beautiful room overlooking the harbour. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Food was amazing. Stayed for 3 nights and had a lovely relaxing time. Our beagle loved the attention and especially his sausages for breakfast every morning 😀"

"First time here and have already booked a return visit. Beautiful location with lots of amazing walks. So peaceful. The hotel feels welcoming and all the facilities, staff and breakfast were a1. Would of liked the option of regular smoked salmon for breakfast rather than as a fishcake. Loved the garden of tranquility, seems so underused but maybe it's much more popular in the summer. Lovely everything and I look forward to my return."

"Really lovely dinner here! You can’t beat the setting — right on the harbour with gorgeous views. The food was delicious, each dish was full of flavour! The atmosphere was relaxed and the staff were super friendly. Bonus points for being dog-friendly too!
Highlight: Staff member accidentally put a napkin over a candle and it caught fire. She grabbed a water jug from our table to put it out, only to discover it was empty (we tried to tell her). So she ran over to another table to borrow their jug. Made the night pretty memorable, that’s for sure!
All in all, a fantastic spot for a casual but special dinner. Just maybe keep an eye on your napkins and don’t expect your water jug to save the day! Definitely planning to come back next time we are in Porlock Weir!"

Escape to the country – a gourmet guide to…
The Porlock Weir Hotel In this comfortable hotel on the quay of a tiny, attractive harbour, South African-born chef Miguel Tenreiro likes, if possible, to catch the fish he serves, or he sources from Brixham, the closest fish market. Oysters are, literally, at his doorstep, he forages samphire from the surrounding cliffs and grows an edible garden – flowers and herbs – outside his kitchen’s back door. In the airy and light-filled dining room overlooking Porlock Bay, you might begin with cured sea trout and pickled red cabbage or black pudding Scotch egg and apple sauce; mains include roasted sea bass fillet and pea risotto, Little Oak Farm pork belly with heritage beetroot, or whole, grilled catch of the day.

The grand finale of the Exmoor Food Fest is taking place at Minehead Harbour on 28 February in conjunction with the first Family Angling Day. Street Food Traders will give the harbour a village feel, inviting people to stroll around the harbour, watch the anglers and taste delicious food. A local produce and craft fair will take place at The Beach Hotel in Minehead where chefs like Mark Dodson will do cooking demonstrations throughout the day.

Miguel Tenreiro is the headchef/manager at the beautiful Porlock Weir Hotel. We asked him a few questions: What’s the most bizarre food combination you’ve ever tried, and did it surprisingly work?. Braai (south african for bbq) porcupine and pineapple kebabs – and yes, it worked!.
