What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Orchard Lane Coffee House is lauded for its exceptional specialty coffee and a tempting array of delicious, often vegan, cakes and pastries, particularly the Swedish buns. Reviewers praise the friendly and attentive service, the cozy atmosphere, and the attractive seaside location. While generally highly rated, some find the prices a bit high and note that alternative milk options may incur an extra charge.
"This small cafe on Sandgate High Street was one of the best parts of our trip. The cappuccino I ordered was made with precise measurements of ingredients and hence tasted out of this world. Their pastries and cakes were also very fresh and delicious. I highly recommend this place."

"Had lovely pot of assam tea leaves served on small board, with tiny milk bottle and tea cup. I also enjoyed a delicious piece of apple and pear crumble cake. They only offered light brown sugar, I didn't ask if they had white granulated sugar."
Jonathan Kinnaird
"We were looking for solid specialty coffee when we were in the area and this didn’t disappoint. We had such a great experience we came back again for breakfast the next day. We also got the beans we enjoyed the most to brew at home. Food wise, we regretted not trying the toastie, but the pastries were pretty good. Personally, I enjoyed the cruffin (strawberries & cream mmmm!) more than the dense buns.
On our first visit, a very sweet barista kindly gave our little one marshmallows when he requested for it in his babyccino (unfortunately she was not around on our second visit). Nevertheless, service was friendly and efficient. Come early if you want a table!"

The pavement terrace at this sun-drenched morning spot is always packed, no matter the season. Inside, punters perch at large communal tables under industrial pendants, while bearded, tattooed baristas match the artisan beans of the week with sweet treats, like cinnamon buns or white-chocolate and pistachio blondies.
Visiting, or moving to, Folkestone
I’ll post some recommendations here soon but for now will mention Loaf cafe, Orchard Lane Coffee House, John Dory wine and The Little Fish Shop. Docker (suppliers of delicious bread around Folkestone) have also just opened a new pub/bar in summer 2023 - I particularly recommend the apple vodka and apple juice on ice combo they have in massive gin glasses . It is always full of people standing outside whenever I’ve gone past so looks like it’s been a big hit already.
