What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Brett offers an exquisite dining experience with exceptional food, creative wine pairings, and a lively atmosphere. Diners rave about the innovative dishes and the engaging kitchen counter seating. While most experiences are positive, some reviews mention occasional service inconsistencies.
"Would highly recommend Brett - the food, staff, and atmosphere were all excellent. They have outdoor heated space for a pre-dinner drink, then we opted for the Chef’s Tasting Menu with paired wines. Sitting at the “kitchen counter” was fascinating to watch and interact occasionally with the Chefs. Will definitely be visiting again!"

"When visiting Scotland we went to this restaurant after we missed a reservation at another place that we were very excited about. So going in we were a little sad, but that quickly changed! Bret was by far my favorite restaurant on our visit the staff was so friendly to us, especially since we sat outside. They made sure we were nice and warm
with the heat lamps.
Then the food was absolutely amazing. It is about 2 years later and I am still thinking about the scallops we ate. It might be the best bite of food I've ever had! 10/10 would recommend Brett!!"
Kayla McDougall
"Our experience at Brett was downright exquisite. We've done many tasting menus with paired wines, but the pairings with this meal were some of the best we've ever had. And if you have the chance to sit at the kitchen counter, I can't recommend it enough—the staff is so lovely, and they're truly working some magic back there."

The 14 best restaurants in Glasgow — our critic’s choice
This compact wine bar-restaurant is the younger, chiller sibling of the Michelin-starred Cail Bruich, ten minutes’ walk down Great Western Road. It’s headed by the talented Ronan Shaftoe, formerly of a Michelin-starred establishment in Hong Kong, and the focus is on natural wines and a concise but serious food offering, with zeitgeisty fire-cooking to the fore. Bright, buzzy, with wine glasses glinting from the ceiling, the space is dominated by a large counter wrapping a bustling open kitchen, adding to a theatrical vibe.
12 new restaurants and bars in Glasgow - from paired cocktails to speakeasy-style dining and handmade tacos
A new bistro is set to be opened in Glasgow’s West End by the owners of Brett and Michelin Star restaurant Cail Bruich. Planning approval to use an empty site at 364 Great Western Road as an off-licence, with food and drink, has been granted by Glasgow City Council. Plans, submitted on the company’s behalf, stated Bar Brett (Concrete Egg Ltd) currently has “an established premises, with an off-licence, that operates from 321 Great Western Road”.
Best restaurants in Glasgow
Natural wine and food cooked over open fire - Bar Brett would be a perfect fit in East London, and even among the heavyweights of wine bar cuisine it would more than hold its own. The team keeps things simple from Monday to Wednesday with yakitori nights, but later in the week there’s a wider range of smartly-curated small plates. It’s pretty cosy inside with only a handful of tables up for grabs, but if you can get one, you won’t regret it.
The rise of natural wine in Glasgow
The team here works solely with product-focused wine makers and suppliers to create an eclectic selection of natural, low-intervention wines that they offer both in their restaurant and wine shop. Their wines are all handpicked and highlight specialist wines from small producers that aren’t readily available anywhere else in the city. Better yet, Brett only sells wines from producers who farm grapes using regenerative working practices.

Alternatively, quaint Vietnamese spot Hanoi Bike Shop (8 Ruthven Ln) does a truly brilliant bowl of pho, while Brett (321 Great Western Rd) is big on charcoal grilling and natural wines. If you want to get fancy, try out Ka Pao’s pan-Asian sharing plates (26 Vinicombe St), Crabshakk and its incredible range of fishy treats (18 Vinicombe St), or the refined plant-based dining at Sylvan (20 Woodlands Rd).

When in “The Dear Green Place”, make time to visit other venues in the group, being Bar Brett, where Ronan Shaftoe, ex of Yardbird, Hong Kong serves yakitori, Sunday to Tuesday.
