What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Porter & Rye is celebrated for its exceptional dry-aged steaks and acclaimed Sunday roasts, served in an intimate, New York-style setting. Diners consistently praise the flawless execution of dishes, from starters to desserts, and the outstanding, attentive service that makes special occasions memorable. While overwhelmingly positive, some reviews suggest portion sizes for meat could be more abundant, but this is a minor point against the overall high quality and experience.
"We visited from Bristol, UK, to celebrate a friend’s birthday over the weekend. Since this is his favorite restaurant, it was a must for his birthday lunch—and it did not disappoint!
From the moment we arrived, the team greeted us warmly and was incredibly helpful with menu recommendations. The service was attentive and considerate throughout.
Every dish, from starters to mains and dessert, was absolutely flawless—easily a 10/10. A special highlight was the thoughtful surprise birthday cake the team arranged for our friend, which was a truly memorable touch.
It was an honor to have this as the first restaurant we dined at during our visit. I have a feeling it will be hard to top this experience!
A huge thank you to the entire team for the outstanding service. I hope to return on my next trip to Glasgow!"

"Can I give this place an ♾️/5 stars? 🥹
This restaurant was an absolute highlight in Glasgow. I think a Sunday roast elsewhere is absolutely ruined for me because the one I tried here almost had me in tears it was so good.
I’ve been to a lot of restaurants around the world and I’ve hardly ever found one that has such a well thought out menu. Every single aspect of every dish is intentional, something you can tell with every bite.
Not only was the Sunday roast fantastic but I also shared half with my boyfriend, so we could try both the roast and their steak and oh my word, it was a revelation. The steak was seasoned to perfection. I normally don’t eat steak as cooked through as this one was but it was just so tender and so flavorful, that it was a knockout.
Everything else we ordered from the drinks to the appetizers to dessert was just so delicious, I could hardly accept that it was over at the end of the night.
Truly, this was a mind blowing experience, only enhanced by the absolute friendliness and attention to detail of the staff. They worked hard to accommodate us, even when we hadn’t made a reservation. They are the standard for how customer service should be done.
Both my boyfriend and I cannot recommend this place enough, we left so so happy 😍"

"This place makes you feel you're transported somewhere outside of Glasgow. The wooden decoration stands out. The service was excellent.
I came for the Sunday roast – highly recommended in the reviews. Overall, it was a great meal. Well served and presented. The meat was good quality but not abundant. Good gravy. The surprise was the cabbage with pancetta: nobody could say no to cabbage cooked in this way.
Great selection of wines too, for all tastes and budgets."

The 10 best restaurants in Glasgow – according to The Scotsman critics
In a city with more than its fair share of excellent steak restaurants (see the Butchershop and the aforementioned Spanish Butcher) it can be hard to stand out from the crowd, and yet, that's exactly what P & R does. Mixing the cool vibes of its stablemate Lebowskis with the modern desire for aged meats with real provenance, Porter & Rye has quickly established itself as one of the hottest tickets in the city's culinary scene. Our reviewer Martyn McLaughlin was blown away by the quality of the steaks when he visited in 2015, writing that the 42-day aged cuts of meat on offer were tender, succulent and packed with flavour, while the sides more than justified their standing on the menu.
