Reviews Summary
The Anchor Hotel is praised for its historic charm, stunning riverside views, and exceptionally friendly and welcoming staff, particularly owner James. Guests appreciate the generous and tasty breakfast, as well as the great value offered by the nearby burger shack. However, some reviews point out the need for investment in room maintenance, mentioning issues like worn mattresses and dated amenities.
"This hotel is in a historic beautiful building overlooking a river and a quaint English town. The staff were friendly and helpful at every interaction. The room was quiet and comfortable and the breakfast couldn't have been better. We highly recommend this hotel. It's one of our favorites on a 3 month trip. Be sure to read the history of the building...it's sooo interesting!"

"Stayed for a few nights. Owner really needs to put sone money into this hotel. Was put into room 4 which was okay until you slept in the bed! Saggy mattress and so noisy when you turned over! Moved to room 7 next morning which had a lovely comfortable bed but the shower!! Really needs a new one, shower itself was fine but missing a door and it had alot of m. astik. Needs a new tv in the room to replace the tiny one that is not fit fir purpose. I know it's a very old place but it really could do with a lick of paint and proper cleaning in rooms after use as in the drawer holding hair dryer had long hairs in it. The breakfast was okay but at tines looked as if it had been cooked aquite a whole ago. Eveningmeals were okay but nothing to write home about. The bar area where the pool table sits looks untidy. The place could do with proper cleaning staff who knows what they are doing and the two running the place are obviously trying their best but without proper investment this hotel will not succeed."
