We’d class Headrow House’s outdoor space as a roof terrace rather than a traditional beer garden, but that’s all part of the appeal of this stylish set-up. You’ll have to head back downstairs to sample all of the beers on offer, but there’s a smaller bar and a kitchen up on the terrace, so once you’ve found a table you won’t have to head back indoors until the sun sets.

The interior of this popular hipster bar is definitely photogenic, but it’s the roof terrace that is the focus of most Instagram shots. On warm, dry days it’s the perfect place to sit with a drink, admiring the views of the city from above – and when night falls the neon red ‘You Used to Call Me on Your Cell Phone’ sign is the subject of most phone camera lenses.

The intention had been to review newly launched Headrow House from the people behind Leeds’ marvellous Belgrave Music Hall, but thanks to my exquisitely honed administrative skills, its food bit, Ox Club, hadn’t opened yet.

We recommend getting yourself on the rooftop on a Saturday with their DJ and getting a pic of their very instagramable neon sign. Expect similar vibes to Belgrave, with an intimate gig venue, 2 for £12 cocktails and a cosy atmosphere. The Headrow, LS1 6PU.
