Bunty's Tea Room

Nestled in a medieval Grade II-listed building on historic Steep Hill, the vintage-style, family-run Bunty’s Tea Room is a charming little spot where big band music and retro knick-knacks welcome guests, and where food is served on quirky, mismatched crockery. A range of teas and infusions (including its very own blend of Keemun and Ceylon loose leaf tea) are offered alongside breakfast bites, sandwiches, salads and jacket potatoes. For a special treat, its afternoon teas (a selection of sandwiches, scones, cakes and a pot of tea for two) are perfect.

Bunty’s Tea Room offers a nostalgic journey back into the arms of traditional Lincolnshire hospitality, doilies, floral chintz china, pinkies in the air, and the rest. Serving as something of a pit stop on Lincoln’s famous Steep Hill (clue’s in the name), and specialising in all-day afternoon tea, the tearoom serves a delightful range of homemade cakes, scones, and light lunches like the famous local plum bread with butter. The tea for two is particularly popular, featuring an assortment of sandwiches and freshly baked scones that coat the roof of your mouth so thoroughly that you won’t be able to argue about whether cream or jam goes on first.

Stepping into this traditional tearoom is like entering a time-warp back to 1940s Britain; the surrounding décor faithfully evokes the period and Afternoon Tea is served in elegant, bone china teapots and a mismatch of dainty, floral patterned cups and saucers. Mercifully, the café hasn’t taken the authentic feel too far by also presenting wartime ration-sized portions. Instead, customers can order generous wedges of home-made Coffee and Walnut Cake or the popular Plum Loaf in pleasant surrounds as they are waited on by a team of caring, conscientious staff.

Head about halfway up Steep Hill on any given Saturday and you’re sure to find a queue of people waiting to get into Bunty’s Tea Room. Recently awarded the gold award by Lincolnshire Today for outstanding quality and service, Bunty’s is the very definition of quaint. Situated in a Grade 2 listed medieval building, their mis-matched crockery and tables adorned with old photographs will fill you with nostalgia, and their cake isn’t half bad either.

A little further down Steep Hill, Bunty’s Tea Room brings a dash of vintage to Lincoln’s café scene. Walk in and you may think you have been transported back in time several decades, with war-era music spouting from what sounds like a gramophone, red telephone boxes on shelves and old bicycles hanging from the walls. Like Bells Tea Shop, Bunty’s is set in a quaint Grade II listed building, but with two floors it offers a bit more space.

Customers describe the freshly made gluten-free sandwiches, cakes and scones as delicious. The Bakewell sponge gets particular praise and Bunty's is one of the few places that serves an indulgent gluten-free afternoon tea. Owner Faye Gault said: "Our scones and cake for our GF afternoon tea are both made on the premises, and we're very proud of them. We always have a GF cake option and offer both white and brown GF bread.

This delightfully quaint family run tea room has consistently pleased locals and travellers alike. The vintage aesthetic does much to offer a warm and friendly trip down memory lane but the real star is of course, the tea. Gorgeous tea cups, a diverse range of old China and plentiful cake to go around, this is a real gem in Lincoln’s mug shaped crown.

This higgledy-piggledy café is packed with charm and character, with staff dressed in vintage clothing and homemade food served on pretty, mismatched crockery.

It’s almost impossible to walk past Bunty’s without stopping to admire the impressive homemade cakes in the window. Conveniently situated halfway up Steep Hill, Bunty’s is the perfect spot to catch your breath and refuel. Inside, the atmosphere is warm, welcoming and incredibly homely.

This small place is located on the famous and notable Steep Hill, and you’ll probably find people queuing to get in. I wasn’t expecting it to be so cosy and nice. Once inside, you’ll be surprised by the quaint decoration from the walls to the tables covered with old pictures and tags.

Run by a lovely team, serving a stunning selection of cakes and scones. Chose afternoon tea, opting for the divine cherry and cinnamon tea together with the luscious Turkish Delight cake. Great selection of choice for vegan and gluten-free guests, all set in a quirky vintage tea shop.
