The Wig & Mitre is one of Lincoln’s longest-serving restaurants, run by the same family since 1976. It has the style and character of a traditional old English pub, with an airy and colourful dining area full of period features. The name is intwined in Lincoln’s history, derived from the judges’ wigs in the castle courts and mitre worn by cathedral bishops.

a couple of the other places i had my eye on for meals were: The Wig and Mitre pub for local Lincoln sausage and mash, The Cosy Club and The Curiosity Shop for some fancy cocktails and craft gins. and Doughnotts for the best doughnuts in the land. i did actually grab some doughnuts for the train on the way back, and i can confirm they were exquisite!

If you fancy a pint or a glass of wine, head to the Wig & Mitre, on Steep Hill. Dogs are very welcome at this historic city pub, which serves excellent food all day long. Pets will be able to enjoy a treat or two at The Birdcage, in Baggholme Road, and The Adam and Eve Tavern – the oldest pub in Lincoln – is well worth a visit too.

In addition to the Wig & Mitre, drop by Adam & Eve Tavern, 25 Lindum Rd. (tel. 01522/537108), the oldest pub in Lincoln, dating from 1701, to knock back a Magnet, Old Speckled Hen, or Theakston's Best Bitter in a homey, cottage atmosphere complete with gas fires and a large front garden for warm-weather drinking and browsing.

Other restaurants include the Castle Hotel, the Tower Hotel and the White Hart Hotel (all uphill Lincoln), Jews House Restaurant, the Wig & Mitre and Browns Pie Shop, all on the way up (or down!) the Steep, Stoke’s Restaurant in town. Also the Bronze Pig and La Trattoria da Vincenzo have great reviews.

The staff were friendly, the food was tasty, well presented, good value, homely and delicious. And it was especially good to be catered for safely as we're gluten and dairy free. We only spent 48 hours in Lincoln, we tried a few different establishments and the Wig and Mitre was our stand out favourite.

Situated on Lincoln’s famous Steep Hill, the Wig and Mitre is everything you want from a proper English pub. A warm, cosy atmosphere, friendly staff, spectacular food and gluten free options!. Lincoln has so many amazing pubs, but sadly not a lot of them cater for coeliacs.

The @wigandmitre1 Is a traditional English pub serving real ale, fine wine and fresh, local food and is ideally placed for a recovery pint at the top of Steep Hill!!. The Wig and Mitre says that they welcome dogs, and well behaved owners!

If you’re longing for a traditional British pub experience, The Wig and Mitre is the perfect spot. The menu features a variety of hearty, homemade dishes, such as steak and ale pie, fish and chips, and sausages with mash.

From my table I had great views of the castle on my right and then through the skylight on my left I could see the top of the cathedral, so I couldn’t really ask for better views.
