From colourful tableware to sensational, fennel-spiked chorizo sausage rolls, there isn't much you can't buy in Peter Kinsella's Spanish deli-restaurant. On my visit, the kitchen had even knocked up a Catalan take on Liverpool's signature stew, scouse, in honour of Global Scouse Day. The daily lunch offer (three tapas and bread, £10.75) is good value.

Authentic Catalan tapas are the order of the day at Lunya in the amorphous Liverpool One shopping development, and there's now a younger sibling, Lunyalita, in the Albert Dock arts quarter, a 200-year-old building with arched ceilings and terrace seating for sun-seekers. A little to the north along the waterfront, Etsu does classic Japanese, from sushi to donburi boxes, in an ambience of sleek understatement. Liam and Ellis Barrie, once of the beguiling Marram Grass in north Wales, have also pitched up to the dock, opening Lerpwl in 2020.

Housed in a beautifully converted 18th-century warehouse in the heart of Liverpool, Lunya gives you a taste of Barcelona through a menu that’s designed to let you explore every corner of the cuisine. Ingredients are either sourced in Spain by the owner himself or from local producers, and continually change to reflect the season. Friday and Saturday nights see the restaurant play host to live Spanish bands.

In line with government regulations, Lunya's restaurants are currently closed for dining in but this is set to change from next month. Lunya confirmed to the ECHO it is reopening both its restaurants every Friday to Sunday with a reduced food menu. During lockdown, its restaurant and deli has remained open every day for online orders, as well as hot tapas and paella takeaway.

This large, modern deli-restaurant has paid loving homage to Spain – and Catalan food, in particular – for 15 years. Lunya – This place always used to catch my eye as it has a fantastic deli inside serving cheeses, chutneys and just all sorts of great picky bits!. But they are another great place for tapas and the place is spotless. Most of their menu items are naturally gluten free, and their allergy matrix is easy to navigate.

World-class Catalan deli and restaurant Lunya is a wonderful place to hang out, with tapas and full-bodied meals on offer. Just don’t expect predictable options in a venue known for signature dishes like Catalan Scouse (morcilla and chorizo stew), or croquetas with oxtail and horseradish mousse.
