What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Choupan Restaurant is praised for its authentic and flavorful Afghan and Persian cuisine, with standout dishes like Qabily Pulao and homemade naan. Diners love the warm, welcoming atmosphere and friendly service, often describing it as a cozy, home-like experience. While the food and value are consistently high, some guests note the limited seating and occasional parking difficulties.
"Dari cuisine, full of vibrant flavors presented delightfully. Prompt service, comfortable environment and family friendly.
The problems with this place;- there is very limited seating, 4 tables if I recall correctly and you may have to wait for a table on a weekend evening. There is hardly any parking and the few spaces outside the front amongst the bus lane are hardly ever vacant.
Prepare in advance if you do go. As far food & service? Flawless!"

"Choupan Restaurant in Manchester delivers a genuinely authentic Afghan and Persian dining experience. The dishes are rich with traditional flavors, and staples like Qabily Pulao and Lamb Dopiaza really stand out—tender, fragrant, and clearly cooked with care. The homemade naan is soft and warm, perfect for scooping up their smooth hummus or pairing with flavorful stews. The food has a distinct home-cooked quality that’s hard to find elsewhere, and portions are generous without compromising quality.
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with a traditional décor that adds to the cultural experience. It’s a family-run place, and that comes through in the way it feels—relaxed and familiar. While most diners report friendly service, there are occasional mentions of inconsistency, particularly during busy hours. That said, Choupan remains a reliable spot for Halal food lovers seeking authentic Afghan and Persian cuisine, offering solid value and a satisfying culinary experience overall.
Highly recommending this to desi food lovers!!"

"Choupan is honestly my favourite restaurant — it’s our go-to spot whenever I’m with my dad and brother. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the way they’ve styled the space is so traditional, reflecting Persian and Afghan culture beautifully. The touches on the walls feel really authentic and thoughtful, like they’ve brought a piece of home into the restaurant. The staff are incredibly kind, always friendly, chatty, and helpful — it just makes the whole experience feel even more personal. And the food? Absolutely amazing. I always get the mantu and it’s honestly one of the best dishes I’ve ever had. The seating works really well for smaller groups of two to four, though I do wish the place was a bit bigger, because it definitely deserves a larger space. Still, everything is honestly top-tier — I’ve got no real complaints at all."

This Afghan-Iranian restaurant on Cheetham Hill Road turns out some of the softest, homemade flatbreads in the city. That should be reason enough to go on its own, but luckily, the rest of the menu is fabulous too. The mantoo dumplings, stuffed with spiced lamb, are a revelation, as is the khoresht-e-gheimeh, lamb stew with dried limes and waxy french fries on top.
