Swan Street is the unofficial boundary between the Northern Quarter and Ancoats, meaning it hosts loads of excellent nightlife and dining spots, ranging from the old man boozer to the cool and conceptual eatery. Within this melee you can find Pull Up, a Caribbean spot unlike many in that it isn’t an itinerant takeaway in an unusual location, but instead is a slick, late night joint with music and cocktails. Head down to enjoy their signature hench box, a combo where you select two mains and enjoy a massive platter with coconut rice ‘n’ peas, a fried festival dumpling, plantain slices and three fresh and crunchy slaws.

If you’re hankering for jerk wings in the city centre get yourself over to Pull Up on Swan Street. Home of the infamous Hench Box (which packs two mains, plantain, dumpling, slaw and coconut rice ‘n’ peas) Pull Up also slings wings, jerk ones at that. Marinaded for 24 hours in special Pull Up jerk seasoning, wings are grilled for crunch and juiciness, giving the skin a welcome balance of heat and flavour.

Pull-Up is smashing the Caribbean dining scene in Manchester, serving up dishes that’ll have you coming back for more. Their jerk chicken is the stuff of legends, marinated for 24 hours in a secret blend that they’re keeping under wraps. But there’s more on the menu than just chicken; they’ve got curried goat, ackee and saltfish, and escovitch fish that are all bang on.

Pull Up Bar Cafe is a welcome addition to Manchester city centre. One of the very few independent Caribbean restaurants in the centre, it’s a colourful, fun-looking cafe based on Swan Street in the Northern Quarter. Of course, in normal times we’d have spent a couple of hours in there, soaking up the atmosphere along with some cocktails and most of the menu.

Pull Up can be found in Ancoats, just above the Northern Quarter. Pull Up is known for giving customers a very friendly atmosphere, with some fantastic music always playing whilst you eat in the vibrantly decorated restaurant. This place certainly has some of the best curry and jerk chicken in Manchester, and is perfect for a summer meal out.

It’s run by Ez Saunders, formerly of The Drop in Chorlton (also well worth seeking out), and son of Aval Saunders, who founded Kool Runnings, among the benchmarks of Caribbean food in Manchester. It’s had its share of soap stars and famous faces swing by, but that’s all a distraction. The jerk here is superbly good.

While there are several great places to grab a yummy breakfast in Manchester, VT, I highly recommend the adorable Up for Breakfast. Located—you guessed it—upstairs, this cozy eatery is always hopping in the mornings. Since it is small, it fills up easily, so the earlier you can get up (literally!) the better.

At Pull Up you’ll find more than just a smattering of the magic of the Caribbean. On the plant-based menu is everything from fried plantain and rice-‘n-peas to dumplings and fresh slaw. And be sure to clock in for their famous Rasta Roast on Sundays, which is both vegan as well as gluten-free.

Caribbean vibes and Caribbean flavours are big at Pull Up at the top end of the Northern Quarter, where atmosphere and authenticity are key words and you will leave fit to burst, especially if you try tackling the famous Hench Box all on your lonesome.

Therefore, Pull-Up is a fitting name for this city centre Caribbean restaurant, as once you’ve tried it you will want to go back.
