Following the huge success and rave reviews of its original restaurant in Ancoats, Rudy’s opened its second base in the city centre in 2018, plus it’s now extended to the suburbs of Chorlton, Altrincham, Didsbury and Sale too. The interiors are industrial chic with towering ceilings, exposed pipes, concrete pillars, and an open kitchen with a huge pizza oven. Pizzas are generously sized but with deliciously light bases (dough is made on site every day and left for 24 hours to double ferment) and high quality toppings, any good intentions of saving a slice quickly goes out of the window.

It didn’t take long for word to spread about Rudy’s appetising Neapolitan pizzas. Debuting on Ancoats’ Cotton Street in 2015 and named after founders Jim Morgan and Kate Wilson’s little dog, the venue’s fast-and-easy style became a quick hit with locals, who’d queue for hours to get a pizza cooked inside their wood-burning stove. Shortly after they were featured in the prestigious Where To Eat Pizzas world guide, a second, larger space was unveiled in the centre of town on Peter Street.

Kate Wilson and Jim Morgan (previously of Honest Crust) know a thing or two about pizza. Now a UK-wide chain, Rudy’s started here in Manny, with the owners’ first tiny spot opening in Ancoats, where they served stunningly good pizzas for around a fiver. Since then, their success has skyrocketed (and so have the prices, obvi), but you can still get a marg for under a tenner and most of the others for 11 or 12 quid.

As a relaxed neighbourhood pizzeria, following the traditions and artistry of pizza from Naples, all three Rudy’s outposts in town happily welcome small, well-trained dogs into their restaurants. Offering an authentic slice of Naples in the heart of Ancoats, the seats at Rudy’s bar are perfect for solo diners, and can also mean less of a queue. Pizzas are cooked for just 60 seconds in the wood-fired oven, giving them a light, chewy base, and are available either ‘white’ or with San Marzano tomato sauce.

Honest Crust was the first to introduce top-notch Neapolitan-style pizza to Manchester, with its roving mobile oven, and then its full-time spot in Altrincham Market House. But Rudy's took things up a level. The queues-down-the-street outpost in Ancoats got out of hand very quickly, spawning another, much bigger site on Peter Street, and now others in Birmingham, Liverpool, Leeds and London.
